REDUCING DEVIATION OF READ HEAD POSITION BETWEEN WRITING AND READING IN A MAGNETIC TAPE
Embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method, and computer program product for offsetting a reading head on a magnetic tape to improve verification. A processor determines a write head width, a read head width, and a track pitch based on determining an LTO standard of the magnetic tape. The processor determines a distance of the reading head from a writing head using the write head width, the read head width, and the track pitch, and causes a tape appliance to relocate the read head on the magnetic tape to the determined distance.
CACHING SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HARD DISK DRIVES AND HYBRID DRIVES
A system includes a read/write module and a caching module. The read/write module is configured to access a first portion of a recording surface of a rotating storage device. Data is stored on the first portion of the recording surface of the rotating storage device at a first density. The caching module is configured to cache data on a second portion of the recording surface of the rotating storage device at a second density. The second portion of the recording surface of the rotating storage device is separate from the first portion of the recording surface of the rotating storage device. The second density is less than the first density.
WRITE TIMING FOR RRO FIELD IN A CONSTANT DENSITY SERVO SYSTEM
A method for writing repeatable run-out data, representing a recurring contribution to position error, to a rotating constant-density magnetic storage medium, includes repeating, for each respective track at a respective radius of the constant-density magnetic storage medium, (1) determining a respective track pattern frequency based on track location and desired data density, (2) locating a position in a respective servo wedge on the respective track based on servo sync mark detection, (3) writing the repeatable run-out data to the respective servo wedge at a time delay, from the location of the position in the respective servo wedge, that is inversely proportional to the respective radius, to achieve a predetermined offset, and (4) repeating the determining, the locating and the writing for each servo wedge on the respective track of the constant-density magnetic storage medium.
WRITE TIMING FOR RRO FIELD IN A CONSTANT DENSITY SERVO SYSTEM

Disc recorder and player apparatus including multiple recorder and player subsystems
A disc recorder and player apparatus includes a plurality of recorder and player subsystems, a disc motor, and a controller. Each of the recorder and player subsystems includes a pickup and a traverse motor. When one of the recorder and player subsystems writes or reads data on or from a first track on the disc recording medium, the controller prohibits the other of the recorder and player subsystems from writing and reading data on and from a second track on the disc recording medium as well as moving the pickup to the second track, the second track being at a position different from a position of the first track, and the second track being to be accessed at a rotational speed different from a rotational speed for the first track.
Data storage device modifying write operation when a laser mode hop is detected
A data storage device is disclosed comprising a first head actuated over a first disk surface, wherein the first head comprises a laser configured to heat the first disk surface while writing data to the first disk surface. A write power is applied to the laser when executing a first write operation, and the first write operation is paused when a transient increase in the output power of the laser is detected. In another embodiment, a write-verify of the written data is executed when a transient decrease in the output power of the laser is detected.
Magnetic disk apparatus and data recording method
A magnetic disk apparatus of one of the embodiments stores read position dependency information on read signal quality of a data region at a first track and measures the read signal quality at a predetermined radial position in a second data region of a second track different from the first track. A positioning error of the second data region is determined based on the read position dependency information and the read signal quality at the predetermined radial position. Data is recorded in a recording target data region in a shingled recording so as to prevent data written in the second data region from being overwritten by data in a recording target data region adjacent to the second data region by using the determined positioning error.
INFORMATION MEMORY DEVICE, FAILURE PREDICTING DEVICE AND FAILURE PREDICTING METHOD
According to one embodiment, physical position information on errors on a recording medium is acquired, physical position relationship between the errors on the recording medium is calculated based on the position information, and a failure mode related to the errors is determined based on the position relationship.
DATA STORAGE DEVICE ELIMINATING PREAMBLE FROM SERVO SECTORS
A data storage device is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a disk comprising a plurality of servo sectors defining a plurality of data tracks, wherein each servo sector comprises a track ID followed by a sync mark followed by at least one servo burst, and a first servo sector does not include a preamble. During a read operation, a servo gate is opened in order to read the track ID, the sync mark, and the servo burst of the first servo sector. During a write operation, the servo gate is opened in order to miss reading at least part of the track ID of the first servo sector so as to reduce a write gap preceding the first servo sector.
