A non-contact communication medium according to an embodiment of the present technology is a non-contact communication medium for a recording medium cartridge, including: a circuit component; a support substrate; and an antenna coil. The circuit component has a memory unit capable of storing management information relating to the recording medium cartridge therein. The support substrate supports the circuit component. The antenna coil includes a coil unit that is electrically connected to the circuit component and formed on the support substrate, an inductance value of the coil unit being 0.3 μH or more and 2.0 μH or less.

A magnetic tape cartridge includes a case in which a magnetic tape is housed, and an NVM of a cartridge memory provided in the case. The NVM stores cartridge information including an identification ID regarding an allowable range of temperature/humidity in using the magnetic tape, an upper limit of a preservation period of the magnetic tape, and an upper limit of a use frequency of the magnetic tape.

Provided is a recording tape cartridge including: a case that accommodates a reel on which a recording tape is wound and includes a reference surface that serves as a reference in an axial direction of the reel in a case where the case is loaded into a drive device; noncontact communication mediums on which individual information is recorded, the noncontact communication mediums being accommodated in the case in a state where at least two noncontact communication mediums overlap each other and having a plate shape; and a supporting portion that is formed in the case and supports the noncontact communication mediums such that the noncontact communication mediums are disposed while being inclined with respect to the reference surface at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

A noncontact communication medium includes a processor, and a memory incorporated in or connected to the processor, and performs noncontact communication with an external communication device. The memory has a storage block where information regarding an attribute of the noncontact communication medium is stored and that includes a plurality of storage fields. The plurality of storage fields include a specification-independent storage field where information independent of a specification of a magnetic tape cartridge, in which the noncontact communication medium is mounted, is stored. The processor is configured to write accompanying information regarding the magnetic tape cartridge in the specification-independent storage field in response to an instruction given from the external communication device to the noncontact communication medium by the noncontact communication.

Provided is a magnetic tape cartridge including: a case in which a magnetic tape is accommodated; and a storage medium provided in the case, in which the storage medium stores tension allowable range related information regarding an allowable range of tension applied to the magnetic tape.

A noncontact communication device includes an antenna, and a processor configured to couple a noncontact storage medium mounted in a magnetic tape cartridge and the antenna by electromagnetic induction to perform communication with the noncontact storage medium. The processor is configured to perform communication in each of a plurality of communication standards, and perform communication with the noncontact storage medium in a communication standard corresponding to the noncontact storage medium among the plurality of communication standards.

An apparatus includes a tape cartridge housing, an RFID chip attached to the tape cartridge housing. The RFID chip includes a tape cartridge ID and tape cartridge information, a time relay operably connected to the RFID chip, and external contact points configured to contact another RFID chip of another tape cartridge within the same tier. A method includes receiving a tape cartridge label read request including a position indicator corresponding to a location of a tape cartridge of interest, moving a tape cartridge gripper to the location indicated by the position indicator, activating a field coil on the tape cartridge gripper to provide power to an RFID chip on a selected tape cartridge, detecting information transmitted by the RFID chip on the selected tape cartridge, determining if the selected tape cartridge is the tape cartridge of interest, and activating a next RFID chip on an adjacent tape cartridge.

A magnetic tape cartridge includes a substantially rectangular box shaped case that houses, inside a housing area, a single reel wound with a magnetic tape and equipped with a reel plate that is attracted and held by magnetic force when loaded into a drive device, and a metal-containing block that is disposed inside the case and outside the housing area of the reel, and has a proportion of metal by mass to a total mass of metal provided inside the case including the reel equipped with the magnetic tape and the reel plate of 18% or greater.

A magnetic tape cartridge includes: a magnetic tape on which data is recorded; and a recording medium other than the magnetic tape, and on which a keyword for searching the data recorded on the magnetic tape is recorded.

A noncontact communication medium includes a coil and a processor mounted on a magnetic tape cartridge. The processor communicates with a communicatee by coupling between the coil and the communicatee by electromagnetic induction through an external magnetic field applied from the communicatee. The communicatee merges a command into the external magnetic field. The processor executes processing corresponding to the command merged into the external magnetic field. The processor changes a response time of the processor in response to the command, according to a characteristic of at least one of the magnetic tape cartridge, the noncontact communication medium, or the communicatee.
