AUTOMATIC IMPLEMENTATION OF A PHYSICAL BARRIER TO PROTECT REMOVABLE STORAGE MEDIA ACCESS

The technology disclosed herein enables automatic implementation of a physical barrier to protect access to data on removable storage media. In a particular embodiment, a method provides determining that the item moved into a storage position using an automatic transfer mechanism and determining that a condition for protecting the item is satisfied. Upon determining that the condition is satisfied, the method provides implementing a physical barrier that prevents the automatic transfer mechanism from removing the item from the storage position.

VINYL RECORD WITH INTEGRATED AUTHENTICITY
20230032976 · 2023-02-02 · ·

A record (100) may include a disk (102), an embedded electronic authentication tag (104), a cover (106) between the disk and the electronic authentication tag, and one or more record labels (108A, 108B). The disk, electronic authentication tag, and cover have a spindle hole (114) and a common centerline (116). The electronic authentication tag contains a unique identification code pointing to information regarding the record stored as a non-fungible token. This information may be used to verify the authenticity and ownership of the record. A puck used to create the disk may include segments of different colors so that, when the record is pressed the different segments produce a visual pattern unique to that record. A picture may be taken after pressing, recorded, recorded as part of the information in the non-fungible token, and later used to verify the authenticity of the record.

Data storage library with service mode

A data storage library system includes a data storage library having at least one library frame, at least one environmental conditioning unit associated with the data storage library and configured to control one or more interior environmental conditions within the at least one library frame, and at least one access door for providing access to an interior portion of the at least one library frame. The system also includes a library controller configured to initiate a service mode prior to and/or during a service procedure performed within the at least one library frame, wherein the service mode comprises configuring the at least one environmental conditioning unit to adjust the one or more environmental conditions within the at least one library frame toward one or more exterior environmental conditions outside of the data storage library. Optionally, a lock and/or indicator (visual and/or audible) may control access to the interior of the library frames. Associated methods of servicing a data storage library are disclosed.

RESTRICTED TRANSPORT STORAGE CARTRIDGES

In some examples, a computer receives a command to transport a storage cartridge in a storage system from a physical storage slot to a storage drive, and determines whether the storage cartridge is associated with a restricted transport indication set by a configuration operation in the storage system. In response to determining that the storage cartridge is associated with the restricted transport indication, the computer checks for an indication of receipt of an access secret information, and denies processing of the command to transport the storage cartridge if the indication of receipt of the access secret information is not present.

OPTICAL MEDIUM REPRODUCING APPARATUS, OPTICAL MEDIUM REPRODUCING METHOD, AND OPTICAL MEDIUM

Provided is an optical medium reproducing apparatus including: a detection unit that divides a luminous flux into a plurality of regions including a first region and a second region which are different in a position in a radial direction and/or a tangential direction, and combines a plurality of detection signals in correspondence with the amount of light that is incident to each of the plurality of regions with combination patterns which are selected to form signals of a plurality of channels; a multi-input equalizer unit that includes a plurality of equalizer units to which the signals of the plurality of channels are respectively supplied, computes outputs of the plurality of equalizer units, and outputs the resultant value as an equalization signal; and a binarization unit that performs binarization processing with respect to the equalization signal to obtain binary data. An addition signal channel including a constant multiplication of detection signals of the first region and the second region is included in at least one of the combination patterns.

Embedded tape reel lock mechanism for tape embedded storage drive

The present disclosure generally relates to a lock mechanism for a tape embedded drive. The tape embedded drive comprises an enclosure enclosing a first tape reel, a second tape reel, and a lock mechanism. The first tape reel comprises a first gear, the second tape reel comprises a second gear, and the lock mechanism is disposed between the first and second gears. The lock mechanism comprises a latch lock, one or more latch tips disposed at a first end of the latch lock, a magnet disposed at a second end of the latch lock, and an electromagnet disposed adjacent to the magnet. When the electromagnet is activated, the latch lock moves to an unlocked position. When the electromagnet is de-activated, the latch lock moves to a locked position where the one or more latch tips are in contact with the first and second gears.

Blocking mechanism for a storage cartridge to prevent insertion into a storage drive

Provided are a storage cartridge, system, and method for a blocking mechanism for a storage cartridge to prevent insertion into a storage drive. The storage cartridge includes an outer surface having an opening, a blocking mechanism disposed within the storage cartridge, wherein in an unreleased state an end of the blocking mechanism is positioned at the opening in the outer surface, and a releasing mechanism coupled to the blocking mechanism in the unreleased state and to engage the blocking mechanism to urge the blocking mechanism to extend through the opening past the outer surface in a released state in a manner that prevents the storage cartridge from being inserted into the storage drive.
