Wire bonding electrical lapping guides for tape head module
A process for manufacturing a magnetic tape head module involves depositing over a wafer substrate electrical traces from respective electrical lapping guides (ELGs) to an area at an end of a tape head module also formed over the substrate, fabricating a closure adjacent to the tape head module where the closure terminates outside of the area at the end of the tape head module, and electrically connecting the electrical traces to an external circuit using a wire-bonding procedure, thereby electrically connecting each ELG to the external circuit. A plurality of electrical connection pads may be deposited at the area at the end of the tape head module, and each electrical trace electrically connected to one of the pads, where electrically connecting the traces to the external circuit includes wire-bonding the pads to the circuit.
Magnetic sensor with serial resistor for asymmetric sensing field range
The present disclosure generally relates to a Wheatstone bridge that has four resistors. Each resistor includes a plurality of tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) structures. Two resistors have identical TMR structures. The remaining two resistors also have identical TMR structures, though the TMR structures are different from the other two resistors. Additionally, the two resistors that have identical TMR structures each have an additional non-TMR resistor as compared to the remaining two resistors that have identical TMR structures. Therefore, the working bias field for the Wheatstone bridge is non-zero.

In-situ protective film
An apparatus according to one embodiment includes a magnetic read transducer comprised of a sensing portion and proximate magnetic shields, and a wear-resistant in-situ film on a media-facing side of the read transducer. The in-situ film is comprised of material derived from a flexible medium. The in-situ film is primarily above the read transducer.
Method of forming an in-situ protective film
A method according to one embodiment includes forming a wear-resistant in-situ film on a magnetic read transducer having a sensor with magnetic shields. The in-situ film including material derived from a flexible medium. The material is formed on the transducer by passing the flexible medium over the transducer at an elevated temperature.
