A power tether for aerial devices such as balloons or drones operates with as few as a single conductor, providing a ground return by capacitive coupling between the aerial device and a ground plane at a base station. High-frequency, high-voltage power allows significant power transfer through the low capacitance between the aerial station and the ground minimizing the necessary current flow.

A self-supporting overhead telecommunication/power cable includes a supporting portion and a transmission portion mutually arranged according to a figure-8 configuration. The transmission portion includes at a central position thereof, an optical fibre conductor and, at a radially outer position with respect to the optical fibre conductor, electrical conductors stranded around the optical fibre conductor. Preferably, the electrical conductors are grouped into sub-units which are stranded around the optical fibre conductor to provide a mechanical protection thereto.

The main core and the auxiliary cores has fiber resin strands formed by fiber filament bundles permeated with resin through molding, and fiber filaments wound on and completely covering the fiber resin strands such that the fiber resin strand is isolated from the outside, and the at least one aluminum wire layer has a plurality of aluminum wires spirally and tightly stranded on the wire core.
