A proportional solenoid valve includes a valve body defining an inlet and an outlet for a fluid flow through the valve body and an armature that is moveable along a longitudinal axis from a first closed position to a second open position to control the flow of fluid through the valve. The valve further includes a flux can and an encapsulated coil assembly encompassed within the flux can. The encapsulated coil assembly includes a bobbin, a wire coil wound around the bobbin, and a non-conductive encapsulation layer that encapsulates the bobbin and the wire coil so as to electrically isolate the wire coil from the flux can and other conductive components of the valve. When the solenoid coil is energized, a magnetic field is created which causes the armature to move away from the first position against the valve body toward the second position, thereby opening the valve. The proportional solenoid further includes insulated wiring that is electrically connected to the wire coil, and a non-conductive encapsulation tower that encapsulates the insulated wiring so as to electrically isolate the insulated wiring from the flux can and other conductive components of the valve.

The bobbin assembly includes a bobbin terminal, and the casing cover includes a connector terminal, wherein when the casing cover is coupled to the casing body, the connector terminal is connected to the bobbin terminal.

A method for measuring the hardware and operational state of a dual-circuit solenoid valve including first and second coaxial coils each associated with a circuit is disclosed. The method includes the steps of injecting a sinusoidal current into the first coil; measuring the voltage induced across the terminals of the second coil; and plotting at least one curve of a first magnitude proportional to the measured induced voltage as a function of a second magnitude proportional to the injected sinusoidal current.

The present invention provides lift pin strategies with a reduced risk of causing contamination due to the up and down actuation of lift pins. The present invention provides a lift pin system that uses electromagnetic actuation strategies in order to raise and lower lift pins. The electromagnetic forces act remotely on the lift pins so that direct contact or coupling of the lift pins to actuation components is not required. This avoids contamination that otherwise would be associated with friction and associated lubricants used for mechanical actuation strategies.

A solenoid device for generating or detecting electrical or magnetic fields includes at least two solenoids combined into a solenoid structure. A two level solenoid structure is formed by helically wrapping a long and bendable primary solenoid around a secondary core to create a secondary solenoid which includes the primary solenoid as a part. If the secondary solenoid is bendable and long enough, it can be helically wrapped around a tertiary core to form a tertiary solenoid which contains the primary solenoid and the secondary solenoid as parts. The upper level solenoid will generally contain a hollow core into which items or bodies to be treated with electrical or magnetic fields can be inserted for treatment. Further, items having inherent magnetic or electrical fields or properties can be inserted into the hollow core so the inherent fields can be detected.
