Hybrid switching apparatus for electric grids
A switching apparatus for an electric grid includes first and second electric terminals, each having first and second electric branches having a plurality of switching devices. The first electric branch includes a first switching device switchable between open and closed states, which is driven by a current flowing along said first switching device and without receiving an external control signal or an external power supply, said first switching device switching from said closed state to said open state, when the current flowing along said switching apparatus exceeds a corresponding predefined threshold value or when the changing rate of the current flowing along said switching apparatus exceeds a corresponding predefined threshold value or upon a combination of these two conditions. A second switching device is connected in series with the first switching device and is switchable between closed and open states upon receiving a corresponding input control signal.

Provided is a current limiting circuit (30) configured to: before release of a touch between a second contact (20b) provided at a position where a terminal (11a) on a power receiving side in which a current flows at supply of DC power in an electrode that supplies the DC power touches before touching a first contact (20a) provided for the electrode at supply of the DC power and the terminal (11a), decrease the current flowing into the terminal (11a) through the second contact (20b); and avoid flowing a current in a case where the terminal (11a) is touching the first contact (20a), and decrease the current flowing into the terminal (11a) through the second contact (20b) only in a case where the terminal (11a) is touching the second contact (20b).
Hybrid switching apparatus for electric grids
A switching apparatus includes first and second electric terminals, and first and second electric branches comprising one or more switching devices. The second electric branch is electrically connected in parallel with said first electric branch between said first and second electric terminals. The switching apparatus comprises a current blocking circuit adapted to block a current along said second branch. The current blocking circuit includes a first switching device of solid-state type and a first electronic circuit electrically connected in parallel to said first switching device of solid-state type. The switching apparatus further comprises a current limiting circuit adapted to limit a current flowing along said second electric branch. Said current limiting circuit is electrically connected in series with said current blocking circuit and it includes a second switching device of solid-state type and a second electronic circuit electrically connected in parallel to said second switching device of solid-state type.
Flexible circuit breaker
A flexible circuit breaker includes at least two semiconductor switches, at least one input and at least two outputs. Each of the at least two semiconductor switches can carry a defined current, and each of the at least two semiconductor switches is monitored individually in relation to the current flowing therethrough, the first output is assigned to a first semiconductor switch, where by a selection using a selection device on the flexible circuit breaker, one can select whether the current flowing through a second semiconductor switch is assigned to the second output or the first output.
SWITCHING ARRANGEMENT
A switching arrangement for reducing contactor wear of an energy storage system having a plurality of battery packs arranged in parallel for powering a load. The switching arrangement includes a contactor for each battery pack, the contactors being configured to connect and disconnect the battery packs relative the load by closing and opening, respectively, an electric arc reducing circuitry associated to one of the contactors, wherein the switching arrangement is configured to electrically disconnect the battery packs from the load by means of the contactors such that the contactor being associated with the electric arc reducing circuitry is opened last.
INTELLIGENT CIRCUIT BREAKERS WITH SOLID-STATE BIDIRECTIONAL SWITCHES
A circuit breaker comprises a solid-state bidirectional switch, a switch control circuit, current and voltage sensors, and a processor. The solid-state bidirectional switch is connected between a line input terminal and a load output terminal of the circuit breaker, and configured to be placed in a switched-on state and a switched-off state. The switch control circuit control operation of the bidirectional switch. The current sensor is configured to sense a magnitude of current flowing in an electrical path between the line input and load output terminals and generate a current sense signal. The voltage sensor is configured to sense a magnitude of voltage on the electrical path and generate a voltage sense signal. The processor is configured to process the current and voltage sense signals to determine operational status information of the circuit breaker, a fault event, and power usage information of a load connected to the load output terminal.
HYBRID MCCB EMPLOYING ELECTROMECHANICAL CONTACTS AND POWER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
A hybrid switch assembly for a circuit breaker assembly is provided. The circuit breaker assembly includes a housing assembly and an operating mechanism. The housing assembly defines a power electronic switch assembly cavity. A hybrid switch assembly includes a number of conductor assemblies, each conductor assembly including a movable conductor, and a stationary conductor. Further, each movable conductor is structured to move between an open, first position, wherein each movable conductor is spaced from and not in electrical communication with an associated stationary conductor, and a closed, second position, wherein each movable conductor is coupled to and in electrical communication with an associated stationary conductor. A number of the conductor assemblies further include a power electronic switch assembly. Each power electronic switch assembly includes an isolation contact assembly. Each isolation contact assembly is selectively coupled to, and in electronic communication with, the stationary conductor and the movable conductor.
Intelligent circuit breakers with internal short circuit control system
A circuit breaker includes an electromechanical switch, a current sensor, a voltage sensor, and a processor. The electromechanical switch is serially connected between a line input terminal and a load output terminal of the circuit breaker, and configured to be placed in a switched-closed state or a switched-open state. The current sensor is configured to sense a magnitude of current flowing in a path between the line input and load output terminals and generate a current sense signal. The voltage sensor is configured to sense a magnitude of voltage at a point on the path between the line input and load output terminals and generate a voltage sense signal. The processor is configured to receive and process the current sense signal and the voltage sense signal to determine operational status information of the circuit breaker and determine power usage information of a load connected to the load output terminal.
Paralleling Mechanical Relays for Increased Current Carrying and Switching Capacity
Multiple relays are connected in parallel by including one or more semiconductor devices connected across the relay contacts. The semiconductor devices are triggered to conduct and shunt transient currents during the opening and closing of the relay contacts to protect the relay contacts from overcurrent and to eliminate arcing during relay switching. This permits a combination of smaller relays to replace a larger and more expensive relay in applications that require switching of large load currents.

A circuit breaker with a switching path has at least one line interruption apparatus, wherein the circuit breaker has a disconnection unit and a connection unit which are each connected to the line interruption apparatus. The switching device has at least one measuring arrangement for measuring at least one electrical variable on the at least one switching path. The disconnection unit further has a comparison and decision unit, which comparison and decision unit is connected to the measuring arrangement and to the line interruption apparatus. The circuit breaker has a first data interface, which first data interface is designed to receive at least one connection command and/or one disconnection command, and wherein the first data interface is connected to the disconnection unit and the connection unit.
