Apparatus and method for providing a time varying voltage
11506629 · 2022-11-22 · ·

An apparatus and method wherein the apparatus includes a channel; at least one pair of electrodes provided within sides of the channel; an electrolyte configured to move through the channel such that when the electrolyte is positioned between the at least one pair of electrodes the electrolyte provides a current path between the at least one pair of electrodes; and wherein the at least one pair of electrodes are configured such that movement of the electrolyte through the channel enables a time varying voltage to be provided.

LOW VOLTAGE MEMS RELAY FILLED WITH ALTERNATIVE GAS MIXTURE TO SF6

The switch contacts of a MEMS relay for a circuit interrupter are coated with a thin layer of liquid metal, and the MEMS relay is disposed in a sealed enclosure containing a gas medium. The gas medium provides an environmentally desirable alternative to sulfur hexafluoride (SF.sub.6), prevents oxidation of the liquid metal coating the relay switch contacts, and has sufficient dielectric strength in order to prevent current flow after separation of the switch contacts.

Hybrid relay

A relay (1) includes a motor (20) and a primary electrical switch assembly (132). Primary electrical switching attachment points (113) are switched by a moveable switching link (101) which is moved in and out of the switch on an switched off position axially by the motor (20) in response to electrical signals delivered to the coil (26) via the flexible leads (32, 33). The switching link (101) includes a mercury reservoir (119). A piezoelectric disk bender (105) displaces mercury to close the gaps between the attachment points (113).

USE OF CONDUCTING FLUID IN PRINTED CIRCUITS

An apparatus for toggling circuits includes a plurality of parallel channels each having a first end and a second end, a plurality of ports transverse to the plurality of parallel channels, wherein each port has a plurality of valves corresponding to the plurality of parallel channels, wherein each valve selectively opens and closes in response to an input and wherein opening a valve fills a portion of a port with a conducting fluid. The apparatus also includes a controller communicatively coupled to the input of each valve and configured to complete an electric circuit between the first end of the parallel channel and the port corresponding to the valve when the controller opens the valve. A method executed by a computer and a corresponding computer program product are also disclosed herein.

Liquid metal MEMS switch

A switch that includes a droplet capable of spreading between two conductors to allow them to be coupled when a voltage is applied. The droplet can be enclosed by a cap that is bonded to a wafer that the droplet is placed upon, and include metallic properties. The cap can create a cavity that may be filled by a fluid, gas, or vapor. The cavity can have multiple conductors that extend partially or fully through it. The droplet can couple the conductors when specific voltages, or frequencies are applied to them. At the specific voltage and frequency the droplet can spread allowing at least two conductors to be coupled.
