Tap changer with an improved monitoring system

An on-load tap changer is provided having a plurality of modules, each of which is operable to change taps in a transformer winding. The tap changer includes a motor connected to rotate at least one shaft. The at least one shaft is connected to the tap change modules and is operable upon rotation to cause the tap change modules to each perform a sequence of operations that effectuate a tap change. A multi-turn absolute encoder is connected to the at least one shaft. A monitoring system is connected to the encoder and is operable to determine from the position of the at least one shaft where the tap change modules are in the sequence of operations.

ADAPTER DEVICE

An adapter device transmits tap positions of an on-load tap-changer from a control device to a secondary device. The adapter device has: an input configured to receive at least one tap position from the control device of the on-load tap-changer; an output configured to output the tap position of the on-load tap-changer to the secondary device; and at least one resistor and at least one switch, which are connected in parallel with one another. The adapter devices is configured such that: depending on the tap position of the on-load tap-changer, the at least one switch is actuated by the control device and the at least one resistor is connected or disconnected, and the output tap position of the on-load tap-changer at the output corresponds to the resistance value of the at least one resistor that has been connected or disconnected.

On-load tap changer device

The present invention relates to an on-load tap changer device, which allows the automatic regulation of voltage in the secondary winding (28) of high-voltage electrical equipment (26, 65) by selecting the number of turns of the primary winding (27) by means of an on-load tap changer device (1, 40), having reduced volume and weight, obtaining the highest possible number of transformation ratios without changing the constructive arrangement of the high-voltage electrical equipment (26, 65).

Motor drive with disengageable coupling

A motor drive for actuation of an on- or off-load tap changer the drive has a drive motor, a load transmission having a first drive shaft carrying a first drive wheel and connected with the drive motor and a second drive shaft carrying a second drive wheel, and a mechanical coupling between the first and second drive wheels. The second drive shaft is operatively connected at a first end with the on- or off-load tap changer and at a second end with an indicator transmission. A setting indicator operatively connected with the indicator transmission displays the current setting of the on- or off-load tap changer, and a disengageable coupling is provided between the setting indicator and the load transmission.

Method of determining an operational setting of an on-load tap changer

An operational setting of an on-load tap changer used to switch between various winding taps of a tapped transformer is determined by first placing the on-load tap changer in operation with the tapped transformer and then moving the changer in a first rotational direction through a regulating range of its stationary operational settings on different winding taps of the tapped transformer toward an end abutment of the tapped transformer. The position is registered on reaching the end abutment of the regulating range of the on-load tap changer, and then the movement is reversed to return to the first stationary operational setting that is then configured as a predefined operational setting with the help of the parameterization that is stored in a nonvolatile memory of the control device.
