Apparatus for analysing ions
An apparatus for analysing ions, including a first mass analyser configured to eject groups of ions in a predetermined sequence during different time windows; an ion transport device having a plurality of electrodes arranged around a transport channel; control means configured to control voltages applied to the electrodes to generate a transport potential in a transport channel, the transport potential having a plurality of potential wells configured to move along the transport channel such that each group of ions received by the ion transport device is respectively transported along the transport channel by one or more selected potential; fragmentation means configured to fragment precursor ions in each group of ions so as to produce product ions; and a second mass analyser configured to produce a respective mass spectrum using each group of ions after the group of ions has been fragmented and transported.
DEVICE FOR MANIPULATING CHARGED PARTICLES
The present invention is concerned with a device for charged particle transportation and manipulation. Embodiments provide a capability of combining positively and negatively charged particles in a single transported packet. Embodiments contain an aggregate of electrodes arranged to form a channel for transportation of charged particles, as well as a source of power supply that provides supply voltage to be applied to the electrodes, the voltage to ensure creation, inside the said channel, of a non-uniform high-frequency electric field, the pseudopotential of which field has one or more local extrema along the length of the channel used for charged particle transportation, at least, within a certain interval of time, whereas, at least one of the said extrema of the pseudopotential is transposed with time, at least within a certain interval of time, at least within a part of the length of the channel used for charged particle transportation.
Electron Induced Dissociation Devices and Methods
A method and apparatus for conducting reactions between precursor ions and reagent ions, for example, a reaction between a precursor cation and an electron, such as ECD, are disclosed. The apparatus comprises first, second, and third pathways, each of which extends at least partially along a central axis, and wherein the second central axis is orthogonal to the first and third central axes. Charged species can be introduced into the second pathway as the ions are transmitted therethrough, thereby increasing precursor ion and charged species interaction without simultaneous trapping of the species.
Method of Charge Reduction of Electron Transfer Dissociation Product Ions
A mass spectrometer is disclosed wherein highly charged fragment ions resulting from Electron Transfer Dissociation fragmentation of parent ions are reduced in charge state within a Proton Transfer Reaction cell by reacting the fragment ions with a neutral superbase reagent gas such as Octahydropyrimidolazepine.
DEVICE FOR RAPID EXCHANGE OF ION SOURCES AND ION TRANSMISSION DEVICES
A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising a rotatable isolation valve 1 having a curved, spherical, cylindrical or concave portion. At least a portion of an ion guide 2 is positioned so as to extend within a swept volume of the isolation valve 1 enabling the ion guide 2 to be positioned close to a second downstream ion guide 3 and for ions to be transmitted from the first 2 ion guide to the second ion guide 3 with high ion transmission efficiency.
PARTICLE MASS SPECTROMETRY
Systems and methods are provided for the analysis of single particles with inductively coupled plasma-time of flight mass spectrometry. An ion compression device is operated in combination with an image current detector to improve a duty cycle of particle analysis. The image current detection device is used to determine a start time and an end time of a separate ion cloud which is derived from a single particle. The ion compression device stores and compresses each ion cloud based on instructions from the image current detector. The duty cycle of the particle analysis can be improved up to nearly 100%. The ion compression device is additionally operated with an ion filtration device to achieve a lower detection limit and a higher signal-to-noise ratio.
Method of fragmenting and charge reducing biomolecules
A method of ionising a sample is disclosed comprising nebulising a sample which includes monoclonal antibody (“mAb”) molecules. A stream of monoclonal antibody droplets or charged droplets is directed so as to impact upon a target or electrode so as to form intact parent monoclonal antibody ions, intact minus light chain parent monoclonal antibody ions or light chain (“LC”) fragment monoclonal antibody ions.
COLLISION CELL HAVING AN AXIAL FIELD
The present invention addresses ways to facilitate the detection and analysis of ion abundance, in particular for analysis of elemental ions, and in particular embodiments for isotope ratio analysis, by use of collision cells that employ an axial drag field, i.e. an axial electric field that exerts a drag force on ions within the cell. By means of the invention, the drag field allows an increase in the transmission in the case of Li from a few % up to almost 100%. The drag field is generated by electric fields and can be switched on and off within microsecond (μs) timescales and thus improves the sensitivity for the lighter elements dramatically. The invention allows use of collision cells for analysis of elemental ions in a simple and fast workflow with high throughput and without compromising transmission.
CURVED ION GUIDES AND RELATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS
An ion guide includes a plurality of lenses arranged in series along a curved central axis. Each lens includes a body and a central opening, and the central openings of the plurality of disks define a curved ion guide region. The ion guide includes an ion deflector configured to apply a radial DC electric field across the ion guide region and along the curved central axis. The ion deflector includes at least one DC voltage source that is configured to apply a positive DC voltage to at least some of the plurality of lenses and a negative DC voltage to at least some of the plurality of lenses.
MASS SPECTROMETER
The present mass spectrometer has one or more intermediate vacuum chambers between an ion source to generate ions derived from a sample component in an atmospheric pressure atmosphere and a vacuum chamber where a mass separator is arranged, including an ion transport unit to have an ion outlet in a first intermediate vacuum chamber at a subsequent stage of the ion source and send ions to the first chamber, an exhaust opening portion to evacuate the first chamber, which is provided in front of ion flow discharged from the ion outlet into the first chamber, an ion delivery opening portion to send ions to a next stage, which is provided on a line intersecting a straight line connecting the ion outlet and the exhaust opening portion, and an ion guide to guide ions to the ion delivery opening portion by an action of a radio-frequency electric field.
