SPRAY IONIZATION DEVICE, ANALYSIS DEVICE, AND SURFACE COATING DEVICE
A spray ionization device comprising: a first pipe body that has a first flow path which allows a liquid to flow therethrough, and has, at one end thereof, a first outlet through which the liquid is sprayed out; a second pipe body that surrounds the first pipe body; and a third pipe body that surrounds the second pipe body with a space interposed therebetween, that has a second flow path allowing a gas to flow therethrough, and that has a second outlet at the one end. At least the leading end part of the third pipe body including the second outlet is made of an electrically conductive material so as to serve as an electrode. Charged droplets can be sprayed from the second outlet by applying an electric field to droplets sprayed from the first outlet using a power supply connected to the electrode.
Collecting and Analyzing Swab Samples
In a general aspect, a swab sample is analyzed, for example, to test for disease. In some examples, a swab head of a swab sample is inserted through an opening into an internal reservoir of a sampling device. The sampling device includes the opening, an inlet channel, an outlet channel, and the internal reservoir. The internal reservoir is in fluid communication with the inlet channel, the outlet channel, and the opening. A liquid solvent is supplied to the swab head in the internal reservoir via the inlet channel of the sampling device. The swab head is held in the liquid solvent for a period of time to form an analyte in the internal reservoir. The analyte is extracted from the internal reservoir via the outlet channel of the sampling device. The analyte is transferred to and processed by a mass spectrometer to obtain mass spectrometry data.
Anomaly detection of gas flow parameters in mass spectrometry
A mass spectrometry (MS) apparatus is provided. The MS apparatus includes a mass spectrometer, an ionization source coupled to the mass spectrometer, and a flow injection system (FIS) coupled to the ionization source. The ionization source is configured to provide an ionized gas flow of an analyte towards an entrance of the mass spectrometer. The ionization source is further configured to provide a second gas flow of a second gas. The MS apparatus is configured to measure a mass spectrometer (MS) signal of the analyte. The MS apparatus is further configured to analyze a dependency of the MS signal of the analyte versus a parameter of the second gas flow or a state of the second gas flow and to determine a condition of the apparatus based on the analyzed dependency.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SAMPLE CHARACTERIZATION
Devices and methods for characterization of analyte mixtures are provided. Some methods described herein include performing enrichment steps on a device before expelling enriched analyte fractions from the device for subsequent analysis. Also included are devices for performing these enrichment steps.
PROBES, SYSTEMS, CARTRIDGES, AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
The invention generally relates to probes, systems, cartridges, and methods of use thereof. In certain embodiments, the invention provides a probe including a porous material and a hollow member coupled to a distal portion of the porous material.
ION SOURCE AND MASS SPECTROMETER
Provided are an ion source and a mass spectrometer that reduce a dead volume of the connecting part of a pipe to a capillary. An ion source has a capillary and a pipe. The capillary has a large-diameter part that forms a capillary upstream-side end face on an upstream side. The large-diameter part has a large-diameter part downstream side face on a downstream side. The pipe has a pipe downstream end face on the downstream side. A capillary retaining unit has a hole through which the capillary downstream-side end face is passable and a face on which the large-diameter part downstream side face is installable. The ion source includes a pipe retaining unit that retains the pipe. The capillary retaining unit and the pipe retaining unit are disposed such that the capillary upstream-side end face contacts the pipe downstream end face to connect the capillary to the pipe.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR QUANTIFYING AN ANALYTE EXTRACTED FROM A SAMPLE
The invention generally relates to systems and methods for quantifying an analyte extracted from a sample. In certain embodiments, the invention provides methods that involve introducing a solvent into a capillary, introducing the capillary into a vessel including a sample such that a portion of the sample is introduced into the capillary, moving the sample and the solvent within the capillary to induce circulation within the sample and the solvent, thereby causing the analyte to be extracted from the sample and into the solvent, analyzing the analyte that has been extracted from the sample, and quantifying the analyte. In certain embodiments, the quantifying step is performed without knowledge of a volume of the sample and/or solvent.
Method and apparatus for improved electrospray emitter lifetime
A method for cleaning a first electrospray emitter of a mass spectrometer comprises: changing an operating mode of the first electrospray emitter from a stable jet mode of operation to a dripping or pulsating mode of operation by lowering a magnitude of a voltage applied between a counter electrode and the first electrospray emitter, |V.sub.1|; moving the first electrospray emitter from a first emitter position from which electrospray ions are delivered to a mass spectrometer inlet to a second emitter position and, simultaneously, moving a second electrospray emitter from a third emitter position to a fourth emitter position; causing a cleaning solvent to flow through the first electrospray emitter at least until a droplet of the cleaning solvent forms on an exterior surface of the first electrospray emitter while operating the electrospray emitter in the dripping mode of operation; and causing the droplet to dislodge from the emitter exterior.
Impact ionisation spray or electrospray ionisation ion source
An impact ionisation spray or electrospray ionisation ion source comprising a nebuliser (30) having a first conduit (11) for providing a liquid sample and a second conduit (10) for providing a nebulisation gas in order to nebulise the liquid sample is disclosed. The first conduit (11) and second conduit (10) are of unitary construction with each other and may be made from glass. The ion source can provide a consistent and/or predictable spray profile for the nebulised sample.
