RADIO NODES HAVING BEAM STEERING ANTENNA ARRAYS
A radio node includes RF circuitry and an antenna array that includes a plurality of columns of radiating elements, the antenna array coupled to the RF circuitry. The antenna array is configured to have a discrete set of beam states in an elevation plane of the antenna array. A first subset of the discrete set of beam states is associated with the radio node being mounted in a wall mount configuration and a second subset of the discrete set of beam states is associated with radio node being mounted in a ceiling mount configuration.
TECHNIQUES FOR ANGLE RESOLUTION IN RADAR
A radar apparatus for estimating position of a plurality of obstacles. The radar apparatus includes a receive antenna unit. The receive antenna unit includes a linear array of antennas and an additional antenna at a predefined offset from at least one antenna in the linear array of antennas. The radar apparatus also includes a signal processing unit. The signal processing unit estimates an azimuth frequency associated with each obstacle of the plurality of obstacles from a signal received from the plurality of obstacles at the linear array of antennas. In addition, the signal processing unit estimates an azimuth angle and an elevation angle associated with each obstacle from the estimated azimuth frequency associated with each obstacle.
Universal transmit/receive module for radar and communications
A universal transmit-receive (UTR) module for phased array systems comprises an antenna element shared for both transmitting and receiving; a transmit path that includes a transmit-path phase shifter, a driver, a switch-mode power amplifier (SMPA) that is configured to be driven by the driver, and a dynamic power supply (DPS) that generates and supplies a DPS voltage to the power supply port of the SMPA; and a receive path that includes a TX/RX switch that determines whether the receive path is electrically connected to or electrically isolated from the antenna element, a bandpass filter (BPF) that aligns with the intended receive frequency and serves to suppress reflected transmit signals and reverse signals, an adjustable-gain low-noise amplifier (LNA), and a receive-path phase shifter. The UTR module is specially designed for operation in phased array systems. The versatility and wideband agility of the UTR module allows a single phased array system to be designed that can be used for multiple purposes, such as, for example, both radar and communications applications.
LENS ANTENNA, DETECTION APPARATUS, AND COMMUNICATION APPARATUS
This application provides a lens antenna, a detection apparatus, and a communications apparatus. The lens antenna includes a feed source, a radio frequency switch, at least two narrow beam radiation units, and a wide beam radiation unit. The feed source may selectively feed any narrow beam radiation unit or the wide beam radiation unit by using the radio frequency switch.
The narrow beam radiation unit or the wide beam radiation unit may be connected to the feed source by switching of the radio frequency switch. A first radiation region of the wide beam radiation unit covers a second radiation region of each narrow beam radiation unit. The wide beam radiation unit includes a plurality of radiation sub-units, and the plurality of radiation sub-units are connected to the radio frequency switch by using a power splitter. In this way, radiation of the plurality of radiation sub-units forms a wide beam.
Satellite Receiver with Dynamically Selected Switched Antenna Elements
A satellite receiver with a switchable array of antenna elements for receiving wireless signals from at least a satellite is described. The antenna elements may be dynamically selected based at least in part on a location and motion of the satellite receiver, and a location and a motion of at least the satellite that provides wireless signals. Moreover, the antenna elements may also be dynamically selected based at least in part on utilization and/or availability of a terrestrial wireless communication network that communicates with the satellite receiver. The satellite receiver may predict availability of communication with at least the satellite. Furthermore, the array of antenna elements may provide improved power efficiency, pointing accuracy and/or isotropic gain relative to an array of antenna elements without switched antenna elements, such as for carrier frequencies in the V or the W band of frequencies.
ANTENNA
An antenna device includes a first antenna and a second antenna. The first antenna receives or transmits first radio frequency signals to a first direction. The second antenna receives or transmits second radio frequency signals to a second direction. The first direction is different from the second direction. The first antenna and the second antenna share radiators.
Dynamic polarization and coupling control from a steerable multi-layered cylindrically fed holographic antenna
An apparatus is disclosed herein for a cylindrically fed antenna and method for using the same. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises: an antenna feed to input a cylindrical feed wave; a first layer coupled to the antenna feed and into which the feed wave propagates outwardly and concentrically from the feed; a second layer coupled to the first layer to cause the feed wave to be reflected at edges of the antenna and propagate inwardly through the second layer from the edges of the antenna; and a radio-frequency (RF) array coupled to the second layer, wherein the feed wave interacts with the RF array to generate a beam.
System and method for return end-to-end beamforming
Methods and systems are described for providing end-to-end beamforming. For example, end-to-end beamforming systems include end-to-end relays and ground networks to provide communications to user terminals located in user beam coverage areas. The ground segment can include geographically distributed access nodes and a central processing system. Return uplink signals, transmitted from the user terminals, have multipath induced by a plurality of receive/transmit signal paths in the end to end relay and are relayed to the ground network. The ground network, using beamformers, recovers user data streams transmitted by the user terminals from return downlink signals. The ground network, using beamformers generates forward uplink signals from appropriately weighted combinations of user data streams that, after relay by the end-end-end relay, produce forward downlink signals that combine to form user beams.
Dynamic polarization and coupling control from a steerable cylindrically fed holographic antenna
An apparatus is disclosed herein for a cylindrically fed antenna and method for using the same. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises an antenna feed to input a cylindrical feed wave and a tunable slotted array coupled to the antenna feed.
RADIO WAVE EMISSION SOURCE VISUALIZATION APPARATUS AND BAND EXPANSION METHOD
An apparatus includes antenna, selector, estimator, imager and creator. The antenna includes antenna elements of N rows by N columns (N is a natural number of 2 or more) arranged in an array and captures an incoming wave. The selector selects an antenna element group including antenna elements of M rows by M columns (M is a natural number less than N) from the antenna elements of N rows by N columns according to a band of the incoming wave. The estimator estimates an incoming direction of the incoming wave from an element signal of each of the antenna elements included in the selected antenna element group. The imager acquires image data by imaging an orientation direction of an aperture of the antenna. The creator creates a visualized image by visually synthesizing the estimated incoming direction with the image data.
