Surface scattering antennas with lumped elements
Surface scattering antennas with lumped elements provide adjustable radiation fields by adjustably coupling scattering elements along a wave-propagating structure. In some approaches, the surface scattering antenna is a multi-layer printed circuit board assembly, and the lumped elements are surface-mount components placed on an upper surface of the printed circuit board assembly. In some approaches, the scattering elements are adjusted by adjusting bias voltages for the lumped elements. In some approaches, the lumped elements include diodes or transistors.

The surface-wave waveguide may also include an impedance sheet disposed on the substrate and between the conductive side walls. The impedance sheet may include a predetermined impedance characteristic for transmitting an electromagnetic wave.
Aimable beam antenna system
A system that improves wireless communication between a wireless base station and a plurality of remote wireless computing user devices (UEs) based on aiming downlink wireless signals from a base station in a beam shaped waveform in a determined direction for each remote UE that is identified as allocated a time period for communication with the base station according to a schedule. The system includes different types of components may be employed to implement various functions, including an angle of arrival (AoA) detector component, a downlink protocol decoder component, and an antenna controller component. The AoA detector component may be employed to monitor one or more radio frequency (RF) wireless signals radiated by UEs that are communicating with the base station in accordance with an allocation schedule.
Antenna having increased side-lobe suppression and improved side-lobe level
An embodiment of an antenna includes first and second transmission lines, first antenna elements, and second antenna elements. The first transmission line is configured to guide a first signal such that the first signal has a characteristic of a first value, and the second transmission line is configured to guide a second signal such that the second signal has the same characteristic but of a second value that is different than the first value. The first antenna elements are each disposed adjacent to the first transmission line and are each configured to radiate the first signal in response to a respective first control signal, and the second antenna elements are each disposed adjacent to the second transmission line and are each configured to radiate the second signal in response to a respective second control signal. Such an antenna can have better main-beam and side-lobe characteristics, and a better SIR, than prior antennas.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MEASURING STRENGTH OF SIGNAL
In a 5.sup.th generation (5G) or pre-5G communication system for supporting a high data transfer rate, a method of measuring a power of a signal in an electronic device may include obtaining, by at least one sensor, a first voltage of the signal at a first point between a power amplifier and a transmission line, obtaining, by the at least one sensor, a second voltage of the signal at a second point between the transmission line and an antenna, and calculating a power of the signal, based on the first voltage and the second voltage. A length of the transmission line may be based on a wavelength of the signal. The method and corresponding electronic device reduce an error between power to be calculated and power consumed in practice.
