TRANSIENT WAVELENGTH DRIFT REDUCTION IN SEMICONDUCTOR LASERS
This application relates to a laser assembly displaying self-heating mitigation. The laser assembly comprises a semiconductor laser and a drive unit for driving the semiconductor laser. The semiconductor laser includes a first semiconductor region for generating or modulating an optical signal in response to a first drive current that is applied to the first semiconductor region, and a heating region that is arranged in proximity to the first semiconductor region and electrically insulated from the first semiconductor region. The drive unit is configured to generate the first drive current and a second drive current, apply the first drive current to the first semiconductor region during respective transmission periods of the semiconductor laser, and apply the second drive current to the heating region in intervals between successive transmission periods.
SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND DEVICES FOR SPECTROCHROME LASER OUTPUT
In one aspect, an example handheld device for providing a spectrochrome output includes (a) an enclosed chamber containing one or more substances; (b) a light source; (c) an electromagnetic coil; (d) one or more magnets; and (e) a housing, wherein the housing is configured to: (i) secure the enclosed chamber; (ii) secure the light source such that an output of the light source is substantially aligned to pass through the enclosed chamber in one or more directions; and (iii) secure the electromagnetic coil around the enclosed chamber such that an electromagnetic field is created in a substantially same direction of the output of the light source through the enclosed chamber.
COHERENT PHOTONICS IMAGER WITH OPTICAL CARRIER SUPPRESSION AND PHASE DETECTION CAPABILITY
A coherent imaging system including a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter includes a coherent source and a power splitter for splitting the electromagnetic radiation into a reference and a signal beam. The receiver includes an image forming device and an array of pixels. Each of the pixels include means for collecting at least a portion of the signal beam imaged on the pixel by an image forming device, as a collected signal; means for splitting the collected signal into a plurality of collected signals each having different phase shifts; means for mixing each of the collected signals with the reference beam so as to form a plurality of mixed signals; and means for detecting the mixed signals and outputting a plurality of output electrical signals in response to the mixed signals.
Laser based water heating element
A laser based water heating element formed from at least two components, e.g., a shaft and a laser beam generator, wherein the shaft and laser beam generator of the laser based water heating element are axially aligned, i.e., the shaft is centered on the laser beam generator, where the laser beam generator is a self-contained green, infrared and red-line laser module with an integrated laser driver circuit, optics and laser diode such that, in operation, the laser beam generator generates a laser beam with an output power that is sufficient to cause the shaft to generate radiant heat and thereby cause the temperature of water within a water heater to rise.

Laser Cleaning Apparatus and Method
Laser cleaning apparatus (100) comprising: a laser system (102) configured to output laser light having a power, a wavelength, a temporal characteristic and a divergence; a delivery cable (106) to deliver the laser light to a cleaning head; a cleaning head (110) comprising: an output aperture and output optics (116) configured to focus the laser light (104) to have a fluence at a focal plane (126) that is greater than an ablation threshold of a surface contaminant to be removed from a surface to be cleaned; scanning apparatus (118) to scan the laser light in at least one dimension across a scan region within the focal plane to cause the scanning laser light to have an effective divergence greater than the divergence of the laser light and to have a corresponding safe working distance from the output aperture determined by the effective divergence, the power, the wavelength and the temporal characteristic; and scan monitoring apparatus (120) to monitor the effective divergence of the scanning laser light and to generate an alarm signal (108) in response to determining that the effective divergence has changed.
SECURING A LIGHT MODULE COMPRISING A LASER SOURCE
The invention relates to a light module including a laser source capable of emitting a coherent light beam of given wavelength, a first sensor capable of picking up a first light signal of a wavelength lying in a first band of wavelengths centered around the given wavelength and a second sensor capable of picking up a second light signal of a wavelength lying in a second band of wavelengths centered around a wavelength distinct from the given wavelength. In particular, the light module includes a detection module capable of comparing at least one value that is a function of the signals to a threshold value and of commanding the stopping of the laser source as a function of the comparison.
INTEGRATED POLARIMETER IN AN OPTICAL LINE SYSTEM
A polarimeter system integrated into an optical line system includes a transmitter coupled to a transmit filter communicatively coupled to an output port in an optical line device, wherein the transmitter is configured to generate a polarization probe signal, and wherein a wavelength of the polarization probe signal is configured to operate in-service with traffic-bearing channels on the output port; and a polarimeter receiver coupled to a receive filter communicatively coupled to an input port in the optical line device, wherein the polarimeter receiver is configured to vary arrangement of input light from the filter and to measure various outputs of the varied arrangement to derive measurement of State of Polarization (SOP) of the input light.
