Semiconductor laser diode
A semiconductor laser diode is disclosed. In an embodiment a semiconductor laser diode includes a first resonator and a second resonator, the first and second resonators having parallel resonator directions along a longitudinal direction and being monolithically integrated into the semiconductor laser diode, wherein the first resonator includes at least a part of a semiconductor layer sequence having an active layer and an active region configured to be electrically pumped to generate a first light, wherein the longitudinal direction is parallel to a main extension plane of the active layer, and wherein the second resonator has an active region with a laser-active material configured to be optically pumped by at least a part of the first light to produce a second light which is partially emitted outwards from the second resonator.

An optical fiber amplification. system includes: a first optical fiber amplifier including a first optical amplifying fiber including a core portion doped with a first rare-earth. element, a first input unit configured to receive first signal light, an excitation-light source configured to output pump light, a pump light combiner configured to input the pump light to the first optical amplifying fiber, and a residual pump light recovery device configured to recover residual pump light; and a second optical fiber amplifier including a second optical amplifying fiber including a core portion doped with a second rare-earth. element, a second input unit configured to receive second signal light, and a residual pump light combiner configured to input, to the second optical amplifying fiber, the residual pump light recovered by the residual pump light recovery device.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS TO INCREASE PUMP CONVERSION EFFICIENCY OF AN OPTICAL FIBER
An optical fiber configured to improve the pump conversion efficiency of an L-band fiber amplifier which uses the multimode pump source. By directly absorbing multimode light including 915 nm, an active fiber core region co-doped with both erbium and ytterbium can provide gain to the L-band signals via stimulated emission. The unwanted C-band amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) light generate from this active fiber core region can be absorbed by another active fiber core region doped with erbium, then provides additional gain to the L-band signals. Active regions and cladding can be configured to match a given spatial mode of the optical signal. Signal-pump combiners with end-coupling or side coupling can be used.
Optical amplifier modules
The present disclosure generally relates optical amplifier modules. In one form for example, an optical amplifier module includes a booster optical amplifier configured to increase optical power of a first optical signal. The module also includes a preamp optical amplifier configured to increase optical power of a second optical signal and a pump laser optically coupled to the booster optical amplifier and the preamp optical amplifier. The pump laser is configured to provide a booster power to the booster optical amplifier and a preamp power to the preamp optical amplifier, the preamp power is effective to induce a gain in optical power to provide a target optical power of the second optical signal from the preamp optical amplifier, and the booster power is dependent on the preamp power.
MULTIPLEXED FIBER SENSOR
Some embodiments are directed to a multiplexed fiber sensor for a fiber optic hydrophone array, including a signal receiver configured to receive a signal from the fiber optic hydrophone sensor array and an interferometer. The interferometer is configured to produce a first signal component and a second signal component from the signal received from the hydrophone array, and also provided with a first polarisation controller configured to control the polarisation of the first signal component and a second polarisation controller configured to control the polarisation of the second signal component. A modulated carrier signal generator configured to generate a modulated carrier signal component based on the first signal component is also provided. A detector configured to output a demodulated output signal from the modulated signal component and the second signal component is included, wherein the modulated signal component and the second signal component output separately from the interferometer.
Optical Fiber Amplification Apparatus
An optical fiber amplification apparatus is disclosed, including an optical receiving port, a first optical output port, a second optical output port, a gain medium, a pump laser, reflection films, and a transmission-reflection film. The pump laser activates a function of the gain medium to amplify an optical signal. A multiplexed optical signal including a first-waveband optical signal and a second-waveband optical signal is incident onto the gain medium. The reflection films enable the multiplexed optical signal to be reflected back and forth in the gain medium. After the first-waveband optical signal reaches a first target gain, the first-waveband optical signal is output from the gain medium to the first optical output port. The second-waveband optical signal is amplified in the gain medium. After the second-waveband optical signal reaches a second target gain, the second-waveband optical signal is output from the gain medium to the second optical output port.
OPTICAL AMPLIFYING FIBER, OPTICAL FIBER AMPLIFIER, AND OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
An optical amplifying fiber includes: at least one single core portion doped with a rare-earth element; an inner cladding portion configured to enclose the at least one core portion, the inner cladding portion having a lower refractive index than maximum refractive index of each core portion; and an outer cladding portion configured to enclose the inner cladding portion, the outer cladding portion having a lower refractive index than refractive index of the inner cladding portion, wherein the inner cladding portion includes a plurality of air bubbles.
MULTI-CORE OPTICAL AMPLIFYING FIBER, MULTI-CORE OPTICAL FIBER AMPLIFIER, AND OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A multi-core optical amplifying fiber includes: core portions doped with a rare-earth element; an inner cladding portion; and an outer cladding portion. A mode field diameter of each core portion at a wavelength at which the rare-earth element performs optical amplification is 5 μm to 11 μm, a relative refractive-index difference of the maximum refractive index of each core portion with respect to the inner cladding portion is 0.35% to 2%, a core-to-core distance is set such that total inter-core crosstalk is −40 dB/100 m or lower in an optical amplification wavelength band subjected to the optical amplification, a cladding thickness is smaller than a value obtained by adding the mode field diameter to a minimum value of the core-to-core distance, and a ratio of a total sectional area of the core portions to a sectional area of the inner cladding portion is 1.9% or more.
Fiber, Optical Amplifier, and Optical Communications System
A fiber applied to an optical amplifier, where the fiber includes a rare earth-doped core and a cladding. The core includes a gain equalization unit. The core is configured to separately amplify optical signals of all wavelengths in a received multiplexing wave. The gain equalization unit is configured to equalize gains of the optical signals of all the wavelengths, such that gains of optical signals that are of all the wavelengths and that are transmitted from an egress port of the fiber all fall within a preset range, The gain of the optical signal of each wavelength in the optical signals of all the wavelengths is determined based on a ratio of power of an amplified optical signal to power of the unamplified optical signal.
SINGLE-LASER LIGHT SOURCE SYSTEM FOR COLD ATOM INTERFEROMETERS
A single-laser light source system for cold atom interferometers, comprising: a reference light module including a narrow-bandwidth laser and a frequency stabilization module and an optical frequency shift module including a first electro-optic modulator and a first narrow-bandwidth optical-fiber filter. The first electro-optic modulator is connected to the first narrow-bandwidth optical-fiber filter by an optical fiber, and the first electro-optic modulator is connected to the laser by an optical fiber. The first electro-optic modulator receives an initial light from the laser, modulates the initial light by a modulation signal with a preset frequency, and generates sidebands with the preset frequency. The first narrow-bandwidth optical-fiber filter filters the optical signal at the output of the first electro-optic modulator to obtain a frequency-shifted light as the +1-order sideband. The frequency-shifted light is used for modulation to obtain a measurement and control light of the cold atom interferometer.
