CHIRPED BRAGG GRATING ELEMENTS
Apparatus and methods for altering one or more spectral, spatial, or temporal characteristics of a light-emitting device are disclosed. Generally, such apparatus may include a volume Bragg grating (VBG) element that receives input light generated by a light-emitting device, conditions one or more characteristics of the input light, and causes the light-emitting device to generate light having the one or more characteristics of the conditioned light.
HIGH PRECISION WAVELENGTH MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL OF A TUNABLE LASER
A tunable laser system includes a tunable laser to be scanned over a range of frequencies and an interferometer having a plurality of interferometer outputs. At least two interferometer outputs of the plurality of interferometer outputs have a phase difference. A wavelength reference has a spectral feature within the range of frequencies, and the spectral feature does not change in an expected operating environment of the tunable laser. Processing circuitry uses the spectral feature and the plurality of interferometer outputs to produce an absolute measurement of a wavelength of the tunable laser and controls the tunable laser based on a comparison of the absolute measurement of the wavelength of the tunable laser with a setpoint wavelength.
Optical fiber structures and methods for varying laser beam profile
In various embodiments, the beam parameter product and/or numerical aperture of a laser beam is adjusted utilizing a step-clad optical fiber having a central core, a first cladding, an annular core, and a second cladding.
SINGLE EMITTER STACKING FOR WAVELENGTH-BEAM-COMBINING LASER SYSTEMS
In various embodiments, multiple laser emitters are arranged in one or more linear stacks and emit beams to one or more linear stacks of interleaving mirrors. The interleaving mirrors direct the beams to a shared exit point, thereby forming an output beam stack. The optical distances traversed by each beam from its emitter to the shared exit point are all equal to each other.
Condensation prevention for high-power laser systems
In various embodiments, laser systems or resonators incorporate two separate cooling loops that may be operated at different cooling temperatures. One cooling loop, which may be operated at a lower temperature, cools beam emitters. The other cooling loop, which may be operated at a higher temperature, cools other mechanical and/or optical components, for example optical elements such as lenses and/or reflectors.
Lens arrangements for varying numerical aperture in laser delivery systems
In various embodiments, one or more optical elements are utilized to alter the numerical aperture of a radiation beam received from an optical fiber in order to accommodate the properties of a downstream collimator within a laser delivery head.
Wavelength beam combining system and method for manufacturing laser diode bar array
In a WBC system of the present disclosure, an LD bar array constituted by a plurality of LD bars is configured such that a main axis direction of an off-angle of at least one LD bar is reversed with respect to a main axis direction of an off-angle of the other LD bar. By doing so, even in the LD bar in which a wavelength distribution in a wafer exists, a difference between a designed lock wavelength and a gain peak wavelength can be kept within a range where an LD oscillation due to an external resonance is possible for all emitters in the LD bar, thereby an output in the WBC system can be maximized.
HIGHLY-INTEGRATED COMPACT DIFFRACTION-GRATING BASED SEMICONDUCTOR LASER
It is an aim of the present invention to provide ultra-compact highly-integrated diffraction-grating semiconductor lasers on chips. Various embodiments combined enable the lasers to be compact in size, light weight, mechanically rugged, low in manufacturing cost, and in some cases high in electrical wall-plugged power efficiency or high in optical power output, comparing to typical lasers based on discrete optical components.
Systems and methods for addressing pumping of thermal interface materials in high-power laser systems
In various embodiments, laser devices feature means, such as fasteners, for attaching a laser package to a cooling plate, which allow motion of the laser package in response to thermal cycles resulting from operation of a beam emitter therewithin. Embodiments of the invention additionally or instead include laser devices featuring segmented barrier layers for electrically isolating the laser package from the cooling plate.
