Power cable jacket removal device and methods of removing a jacket from a cable

A cable jacket removal device is used to selectively remove a sheath from a length of a sheathed cable. The cable jacket removal device includes a support frame, a drive shaft, and a motor. The support frame removably couples the removal device to the cable to be stripped. The drive shaft is coupled to the support frame. The motor is coupled to the drive shaft to selectively rotate the drive shaft to cause the removal device to travel along the cable to automatically remove a cable jacket from a predefined distance of the cable.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PROCESSING AN ELECTRICAL CABLE

The invention relates to a method for processing an electrical cable (2), according to which a braided cable shield (6) of the cable (2), which is exposed along a longitudinal axis (L) of the cable (2) from a cable end (5) which is to be processed to a first stripping position (P.sub.A1), is, by means of brushing with at least one drivable brush (10), folded back towards a cable end facing away from the cable end (5) to be processed. According to the invention, a defined fold-back position (P.sub.U) for the braided cable shield (6) is determined along the longitudinal axis (L) of the cable (2). Before and/or during brushing, a front end of the forming sleeve (12), said front end facing the cable end (5) to be processed, is placed onto the cable (2) and positioned at the fold-back position (P.sub.U) in order to fold back the braided cable shield (6) onto the forming sleeve (12) starting from the fold-back position (P.sub.U). According to the invention, the fold-back position (P.sub.U) is determined in such a way that the fold-back position (P.sub.U) deviates from the first stripping position (P.sub.A1) and/or that the forming sleeve (12) has an end-face stop surface (20) for the braided cable shield (6).

Techniques, systems and articles are described for preparing electrical cables for connections to a power grid. In one example, a cable-preparation system includes a tool-head mount configured to couple to a cutting-tool head, wherein the cutting-tool head is configured to receive a first portion of an electrical cable and comprises a plurality of rollers and at least one rotatable cutting tool configured to cut at least one layer of the electrical cable; a cable clamp configured to retain a second portion of the electrical cable; and a guide rail extending from the tool-head mount to the cable clamp parallel to a longitudinal axis of the electrical cable, wherein the guide rail guides an axial movement of the cutting-tool head along the electrical cable as the cutting-tool head cuts the one or more layers of the electrical cable.

Control device for and method of operating a metal clad cable cutting machine

A control device according to some embodiments of the disclosure includes one or more motors directed by the control device to form whip(s) from a length of a cable by causing the cutting of the cable in accordance with specifications based at least in part on whip information. An interface communicates the whip information between the control device and a user device.

Embedded wire removal tool

An embedded wire removal tool is disclosed. The embedded wire removal tool can include a feed mechanism operable to cause movement of a cable. The cable can have a jacket about a core. The cable can also include a wire disposed about the core and at least partially embedded in the jacket. The embedded wire removal tool can also include a jacket cutter operable to receive the cable from the feed mechanism and remove at least a portion of the jacket. In addition, the embedded wire removal tool can include a wire excavator operable to separate the wire from the core.

Cable cutter saw

A metal clad electrical cable saw cuts cable laying in a concave track. A cross-cut saw cuts entirely though the cable making the cable into two cables. Two slitting saws cut outer armor of the cable at two places approximately nine inches from the cross-cut to allow removing the severed outer armor. The two slitting saws cut through one or more overlapping rings of metal that form the outer armor which is of an extruded interlocking design, thereby allowing the outer armor to be removed exposing the electrical wires. Slitting blade guards protect an operator's hands while cutting the cable. The exposed electrical wires may be inserted into an electrical box for connection and the remaining outer armor typically “stops” inside an electrical connector. The connector secures the cable in accordance with applicable practice and code requirements.
