SERIES Z-SOURCE CIRCUIT BREAKER WITH PULSE-TESTING CAPABILITY

A series Z-source circuit breaker including a semiconductor switch that breaks source power being provided to a load in response to overcurrent. An electromechanical switch is electrically coupled in parallel with the semiconductor switch, a first capacitor is electrically coupled to an output side of the semiconductor switch, a second capacitor is electrically coupled in parallel with the semiconductor switch, and a delay circuit is electrically coupled in series with the first capacitor. The semiconductor switch is in an open position and the electromechanical switch is in a closed position when overcurrent is not present. Upon detection of overcurrent the semiconductor switch is closed, the electromechanical switch is opened and the delay circuit is controlled to delay when reverse bias current is provided from the first capacitor to the semiconductor switch to prevent source power from being provided to the load to give the electromechanical switch time to open.

An anti-fuse having two electrical connections is constructed by adding at least one zener diode and resistor to a power MOSFET. When the voltage across the two electrical connections exceeds the zener diode voltage and the maximum gate voltage of the MOSFET, the MOSFET burns out. This shorts out the device which can be used to bypass an LED or other load when that load burns out and forms an open circuit.

Power Supply Glitch Detection

A detector circuit included in a computer system filters the voltage level of a power supply node to generate filtered signals. The detector circuit either compares the filtered signals or samples the filtered signal and compares the samples to reference levels to detect changes in the voltage level of the power supply node that exceed thresholds for magnitude and duration. A control circuit included in the computer system generates, using the glitch signal, control signals that can be used to change operating parameters of functional circuits included in the computer system.

Protection system for an electric meter

A protection system described herein includes a first connector, a second connector, and a voltage-limiter device. The first connector is configured to connect to a first load-side terminal of an electric meter, and the second connector is configured to connect to a second load-side terminal of the electric meter. In a circuit between the first connector and the second connector, the voltage-limiter device is configured to clamp a voltage between the first and second load-side terminals at a trigger voltage, to prevent a greater voltage from reaching the electric meter when a service-disconnect switch of the electric meter is open and an external voltage greater than the trigger voltage is applied to a load side of the electric meter. The voltage-limiter device provides a conductive path in parallel with a customer premises associated with the electric meter when the voltage between first and second connectors reaches the trigger voltage.
