Compact high-voltage power supply systems and methods

A downhole tool may include a high-voltage power supply disposed within a housing to transform input power to the downhole tool from a first voltage to a second voltage greater than the first voltage. The high-voltage power supply may include an array of capacitors, which may include multiple rows of capacitors. The rows of capacitors may be parallel with a symmetric cross section as viewed from an end of the array of capacitors. The high-voltage power supply may also include diodes electrically coupled to the array of capacitors.

Converter station with diode rectifier

A converter station for the transmission of electrical power has a diode rectifier with a DC terminal and an AC terminal. At least one transformer is connected to the AC terminal. In order to render the converter station as compact as possible, the diode rectifier is arranged in an insulating material.

BOOSTER CIRCUIT AND VOLTAGE GENERATOR

A booster circuit includes, at a substrate end of an insulating substrate, an input part of voltage, an output part of voltage, and a conductive L-shaped joint fitting. The L-shaped joint fitting includes a plate-shaped bottom surface portion attached to the insulating substrate and a plate-shaped back surface portion bent from the bottom surface portion and extending in a specific direction. In the input part and the output part, a capacitor, a diode, and a connection line connecting the insulating substrates are electrically connected at a component connecting portion, and the L-shaped joint fitting is disposed such that a lead forming portion of a lead connected to the capacitor, a lead forming portion of a lead connected to the diode, and the component connecting portion fit within an area of a main surface of the back surface portion and an area of a main surface of the bottom surface portion.

Non-planar voltage multiplier

In order to reduce the amount of electrical insulation needed for voltage isolation of large voltages generated by a voltage multiplier, the voltage multiplier can be shaped to smooth out electric field gradients. The voltage multiplier can comprise multiple sections, each section located in a different plane. The voltage multiplier can comprise a negative voltage multiplier and a positive voltage multiplier, each inclined at different angles with respect to each other. The voltage multiplier can include a curved shape.

The insulating layer is provided on an outer circumference of a bundle of winding wires of each of the secondary coils so as to individually cover each of the secondary coils. The conductive layer is provided on an outer circumference of each of the insulating layers so as to individually cover each of the insulating layers.
