A hybrid electric propulsion system includes a gas turbine engine having a low speed spool and a high speed spool. The low speed spool includes a low pressure compressor and a low pressure turbine, and the high speed spool includes a high pressure compressor and a high pressure turbine. The hybrid electric propulsion system also includes an energy storage system, an electric motor configured to augment rotational power of the high speed spool, and a controller. The controller is operable to detect a start condition of the gas turbine engine, control power delivery from the energy storage system to the electric motor based on detecting the start condition, and provide a compressor stall margin using a power-assist provided by the electric motor to the high speed spool over a targeted speed range during starting of the gas turbine engine.

Hybrid-type engine generator output controller

In an output control of a hybrid-type engine generator equipped with a load output demand detecting unit, a load output demand increase/decrease determination unit and an output control unit, a configuration is adopted whereby load output demand from (output required by) the load is detected, increase/decrease of the detected load output demand is determined, discharge power from the battery is added to generated power output of the engine generator unit when detected load output demand is determined to be increasing, and output of the engine generator unit is controlled so as to use some generated power output of the engine generator unit as charge power of the battery when detected load output demand is determined to be decreasing.

Inverter generator

A standby generator includes a standby housing defining a cavity and an internal combustion engine. The engine includes an engine block including a cylinder comprising a piston, an engine housing at least partially covering the engine block, and a crankshaft configured to rotate about a vertical crankshaft axis in response to movement by the piston. The standby generator also includes an alternator configured to generate alternating current electrical power, a controller comprising a rectifier configured to convert the alternating current to a direct current and an inverter configured to convert the direct current to a clean alternating current electrical power, and a transfer switch configured to receive the clean alternating current electrical power from the controller and at least one of grid, solar, or battery power, and configured to supply power to an electrical load. The internal combustion engine, the alternator, and the controller are positioned within the cavity.

A portable electrical generation system includes a generator having a rotor and a plurality of stators to produce a supply of electrical energy, a prime mover operable to drive the rotor, a voltage selector control operably connected to the generator, and a link board assembly configured to removably engage the voltage selector control, the link board assembly including a base board and a plurality of bus bars, the bus bars being arranged to electrically orient the plurality of stators to provide a first power output configuration.

Dual fuel generator

A control circuit for a dual fuel generator includes a primary fuel valve to control the supply of a primary fuel, a secondary fuel valve to control the supply of a secondary fuel, a primary fuel pressure switch to detect the primary fuel, a secondary fuel pressure switch to detect the secondary fuel, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a primary signal for availability of the primary fuel from the primary fuel pressure switch and a secondary signal for availability of the secondary fuel from the secondary and operate the primary fuel valve and the secondary fuel valve in response to the primary signal and the secondary signal. When the secondary fuel valve is open so that the secondary fuel is provided to the dual fuel generator, the control circuit is configured to ground the primary signal by connecting the primary fuel pressure switch to ground.

AIRCRAFT ENGINE SYSTEM INCLUDING A CLUTCH AND MOTOR CONTROLLER FOR SELECTIVELY CONNECTING A GENERATOR AND A TURBINE ENGINE

An engine system includes a turbine engine having a high pressure spool and a low pressure spool. A transmission includes an input shaft connected to one of the high pressure spool and the low pressure spool, and an output shaft. A clutch is arranged between the input shaft and the output shaft. A generator is connected to the output shaft. A clutch controller activates the clutch when one of the high pressure spool and the low pressure spool, and the generator are operating at a selected speed range.

Low loss shunt regulator

A direct-current (DC) power generation system for a vehicle, a boosting shunt regulator, and a method of regulating the output of an AC generator with the boosting shunt regulator are provided. The boosting shunt regulator includes gated power switches electrically coupled between AC generator contacts and output contacts. A shunt operates the power switches at duty cycles selected to boost the AC voltages output by the AC generator.

An idling-stop control apparatus includes an idling-stop controller and an auxiliary-machine controller. The idling-stop controller is configured to automatically stop an engine to cause the engine to be in a state in which idling is stopped in a case where a predetermined condition for stopping idling is satisfied and configured to automatically restart the engine in a case where a predetermined condition for restarting the engine is satisfied. The auxiliary-machine controller is configured to control a drive state of an auxiliary machine that is to be driven by the engine. The auxiliary-machine controller is configured to control the drive state of the auxiliary machine that is driven by the engine such that, in a case where the engine is automatically restarted from the state in which idling is stopped by the idling-stop controller, a time differential value of an engine speed of the engine is constant.

INDUCTION MOTOR CONTROL VIA GENERATOR CONTROL UNIT

A propulsion system (100) comprises: a generator (30) driven by a shaft (22) of a thermal engine (20) and configured to generate electrical power; an induction motor (60) that is electrically coupled to the output of the generator (30) and is configured to generate a rotational output in response to electrical power provided by the generator (30); a generator control unit (40) that is configured to control an output voltage of the generator (30) to limit a current supplied to the induction motor (60) during start-up of the propulsion system (100); and a switch (50) that is electrically coupled between the generator (30) and the induction motor (60), wherein the switch (50) is controllable by the generator control unit (40).

Auto-braking for an electromagnetic machine

Systems and methods are provided for braking a translator of a linear multiphase electromagnetic machine. The system detects a fault event, and in response to detecting the fault event, causes the translator to brake using an electromagnetic technique. Braking includes causing the translator to stop reciprocating, by applying a force opposing an axial motion, which may occur within one cycle, or over many cycles. The fault event may include, for example, a fault associated with an encoder, a controller, an electrical component, a communications link, a phase, or a subsystem. The system includes a power electronics system configured to apply current to the phases. The system may use position information, current information, operating parameters, or a combination thereof to brake. Alternatively, the system need not use position information, current information, and operating parameters, and may brake the translator independent of such information.
