A motor drive control device includes a drive circuit configured to drive a motor with a drive control signal for driving the motor, and a control circuit configured to perform a vector control arithmetic operation based on a detection result of drive currents of coils of the motor, to generate the drive control signal and supply the drive control signal to the drive circuit. When generating the drive control signal, the control circuit estimates a rotation angle of a rotor of the motor and a rotation speed of the rotor with a q-axis current value of a two-phase rotating coordinate system calculated with a detection result of the drive current, and a q-axis voltage command value of the two-phase rotating coordinate system, by using a linear Kalman filter including a prediction step and an update step, using a stationary Kalman filter with the prediction step expressed linearly and time-invariantly.

The system also includes an electric traction motor to provide drive power to a transmission of the vehicle based on injection of the AC from the inverter. The current regulator adjusts parameters of a transfer function implemented by the current regulator, based on feedback of an input to and an output from the electric traction motor to achieve the AC corresponding with the torque input in no more than two control cycles.

Variable speed drive for the sensorless PWM control of an AC motor by exploiting PWM-induced artefacts

A variable speed drive comprises an output for delivering a drive voltage to an electric motor, power inverter, a drive controller, and a current sensor. The drive controller includes a PWM generator, a control law module, and a state variable estimator for estimating a state variable of the electric motor. The module computes a target voltage signal based on state variable estimates provided by the estimator and outputs the target voltage signal to the PWM generator. The generator approximates the target voltage signal with a PWM control signal, controls the inverter using the control signal, computes, based on the deviation between the control signal and the target voltage signal, an estimation support signal, and outputs the estimation support signal to the estimator. The estimator estimates a state variable of the motor based on the estimation support signal and the drive current, and outputs the estimate to the module.

A powertrain system including an electric machine rotatably coupled to a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine via a belt is described, wherein the electric machine is disposed to generate torque. A method for controlling the electric machine includes monitoring rotational position of the electric machine, and periodically executing a speed observer to determine a rotational speed of the electric machine based upon the monitored rotational position of the electric machine. An acceleration observer is periodically executed to determine an acceleration rate, wherein the acceleration rate is determined based upon a time-based change in the rotational speed of the electric machine. A virtual inertia term is determined based upon the acceleration rate, and a torque compensation term is determined based upon the virtual inertia term and the acceleration rate. The electric machine is controlled to generate torque based upon the torque compensation term.
