APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR LOW DENSITY PARITY CHECK CODE DECODING
Apparatus and method for low density parity check code decoding in a first processing device, wherein the method includes receiving a first bit-word of a first length related to a log-likelihood ratio of a bit of a signal; obtaining a second bit-word of a second length that is shorter than the first length, wherein obtaining the second bit-word comprises applying a correction to the first bit-word; and determining a message depending on a set of second bit-words, wherein the set of second bit-words includes the second bit-word.
Method and apparatus for quantizing soft information using linear quantization
A process capable of employing compression and decompression mechanism to receive and decode soft information is disclosed. The process, in one aspect, is able to receive a data stream formatted with soft information from a communication network such as a wireless network. After identifying a set of bits representing a first logic value from a portion of the data stream in accordance with a predefined soft encoding scheme, the set of bits is compressed into a compressed set of bits. The compressed set of bits which represents the first logic value is subsequently stored in a local memory.
Error Correction for LDPC Decoders
A reception unit for use in a data link and a method for error correction on a reception word in a data link are specified. A low-density parity-check code, LDPC code, is used to iteratively adapt the reception word by virtue of bit node messages and check node messages being exchanged. The check node messages that are transmitted to the bit nodes are quantized in three levels and adopt the values −1, 0 or +1. The method may thus be implemented with low computational expenditure.

Non-uniform quantization of log likelihood ratios
A method of processing a signal by non-uniform quantization of log likelihood ratios is disclosed. A method comprising the steps of: receiving a plurality of bits; calculating a log likelihood ratio, known as a LLR, for each bit; providing a LLR value for each bit based on the calculated LLR; quantizing the LLR values into a plurality of quantization bins, each quantization bin having: a width representative of one or more LLR values; and an index value having a bit length; and associating each bit with the index value that corresponds to its LLR value, wherein the width of each quantization bin is non-uniform.
