A coherent transceiver includes a modulator, a receiver, a filter, a splitter, a detector, and a controller. The modulator modulates a data on the basis of laser light and outputs transmission light. The receiver receives reception light with same wavelength as the transmission light from input multiplexed light, on the basis of the laser light. The filter is arranged on an input stage of the receiver and includes a first port that inputs the multiplexed light, a filter body that transmits the reception light from the multiplexed light, and a second port that outputs the transmitted reception light. The splitter splits the transmission light travelling from the modulator and inputs the splitted transmission light. The detector detects a level of the splitted transmission light input. The controller adjusts a passband of the filter on the basis of the detected level.

A wavelength demultiplexer includes a photonic circuit and a control circuit that adjusts wavelength characteristics of the photonic circuit. The photonic circuit converts two orthogonal polarized waves contained in the incident light into two same polarized waves, which are supplied to a first optical demultiplexing circuit and a second optical demultiplexing circuit provided in the photonic circuit and having the same configuration. The photonic circuit supplies a total output power of monitor lights extracted from the same positions in the first optical demultiplexing circuit and the second optical demultiplexing circuit to the control circuit. The control circuit controls a first wavelength characteristic of the first optical demultiplexing circuit and a second wavelength characteristic of the second optical demultiplexing circuit based on the total output power of the monitor lights.

The monolithic transceiver includes a coherent receiver module (CRM), a coherent transmitter module (CTM), and a local oscillation splitter to feed a local oscillation to the CRM and the CTM with a tunable power ratio. The monolithic transceiver provides tunable responsivity by employing photodiodes for opto-electrical conversion. The monolithic transceiver also employs a polarization beam rotator-splitter (PBRS) and a polarization beam rotator-combiner (PBRC) for supporting modulation schemes including polarization multiplexed quadrature amplitude modulation (PM-QAM) and polarization multiplexed quadrature phase shift keying (PM-QPSK).
