TEST DEVICE WITH DISTRIBUTED UNIT EMULATION FOR TESTING IN OPEN RADIO ACCESS NETWORK
20230046743 · 2023-02-16 · ·

A test device tests conditions associated with a fronthaul in an Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN). The test device can field test an O-RAN radio unit (O-RU) installed at a cell site by emulating an O-RAN distributed unit (O-DU) in the O-RAN connected to the O-RU via the fronthaul of the O-RAN. The testing includes testing connectivity of the O-RU to the fronthaul. The testing includes executing managing plane (M-plane) and synchronization plane (S-plane) messaging to test management session establishment, device setting testing, and master clock synchronization testing. Additionally, optical insertion loss in the fronthaul and frequency and power of signals transmitted from the O-RU can be tested.

Intelligent distributed antenna system monitoring

An intelligent distributed antenna system is disclosed which improves upon known distributed antenna systems particularly with respect to identifying failures or anomalies in the system. The disclosed system includes a signal source, a master unit, and one or more remote units each connected to antennas for transmitting radio frequency signals to terminal units and each connected to the master unit through fiber. The remote units, the master unit, or both may include power signal readers. The remote units may be configured to determine a point of failure in the system based on the power measured from reflected signals. The master unit can be in communication with the remote units to generate alarms and reports as well as to control the system in response to detection of a failure or anomaly.

Systems and methods for emulating a channel for wireless communications between a transmit (TX) system-under-test (SUT) and a receive (RX) SUT. The TX and RX SUTs include integrated antenna arrays for transmitting and receiving wireless signals. For a plurality of paths of the emulated channel, and for each antenna element of the TX SUT, a respective phase shift and gain modification is applied to a wireless signals transmitted by the respective antenna element. The phase shifts and gain modifications emulate path length differences between different antenna elements. The signals for each antenna element are summed, and a path-specific modification is applied to each aggregate signal for each path. For each RX antenna element, phase shift and gain modifications are applied to emulate path-length differences for the RX antenna elements, the resultant signals are summed for each path, and the emulated wireless signals are output to the RX antenna elements.

Antenna Status Remote Monitoring System

An antenna monitoring unit for monitoring an RF transmission line and RF signal path to an antenna unit used in a distributed antenna system in a structure. The antenna is DC isolated from the RF transmission line through a current injector, allowing testing by sending a code from a base station to a remote antenna location and using a monitoring module to confirm reception of the code and transmit data to the base station relating to the antenna unit.
