DESIGNING FIR FILTERS WITH GLOBALLY MINIMAX-OPTIMAL MAGNITUDE RESPONSE
20170317701 · 2017-11-02 · ·

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide mechanisms that enable designing an FIR filter that would have a guaranteed globally optimal magnitude response in terms of the minimax optimality criterion given a desired weight on the error in the stopband versus the passband. Design of such a filter is based on a theorem (“characterization theorem”) that provides an approach for characterizing the global minimax optimality of a given FIR filter h[n], n=0, 1, . . . , N, where optimality is evaluated with respect to a magnitude response of this filter, |H(e.sup.jω)|, as compared to the desired filter response, D(ω), which is unity in the passband and zero in the stopband. The characterization theorem enables characterizing optimality for both real-valued and complex-valued filter coefficients, and does not require any symmetry in the coefficients, thus being applicable to all non-linear phase FIR filters.

Interference detection and mitigation in radio frequency receivers

A radio frequency (RF) receiver and method of controlling an RF receiver are provided. The method includes receiving an RF signal and down-converting the RF signal to a substantially baseband signal. A direct current (DC) transition is detected in a portion of the substantially baseband signal. The substantially baseband signal is then filtered using a first filter configuration at the portion of the substantially baseband signal including the DC transition and a second filter configuration at a portion of the substantially baseband signal not including the DC transition.

Frequency modulation tracking for band rejection to reduce dynamic range

In at least one embodiment of the invention, a method for reducing a dynamic range of a received radio frequency signal includes receiving digital IQ signals corresponding to an in-phase component of the received radio frequency signal and a quadrature component of the received radio frequency signal. The method includes demodulating the digital IQ signals to generate an instantaneous frequency signal. The method includes selecting a center frequency of a selectable filter according to whether an interfering signal is detected in a target frequency band of the received radio frequency signal. The center frequency is selected from a predetermined frequency and an estimated center frequency determined using the instantaneous frequency signal. The method includes filtering the digital IQ signals using the selectable filter configured using the center frequency to generate output digital IQ signals.
