A method and system for managing quantity of carriers to aggregate together in carrier aggregation service, based at least in part on consideration of the type of content that will be communicated to or from the user equipment device (UE) at issue. A base station serving the UE may determine a type of content that will be communicated between the base station and the UE and, based at least on the determined type of content, may decide whether to apply carrier aggregation and, when the decision is to apply carrier aggregation, determine, based at least on the determined type of content, how many component carriers to aggregate together in the carrier aggregation service of the UE. The base station may then modify an air interface connection with the UE to encompass the determined number of component carriers.

A communication unit according to the present disclosure includes a communication circuit section that transmits and receives data to and from at least one communication target unit over a period of a plurality of time segments each divided into a plurality of time slots, receives data transmitted from the communication target unit during a period of a time slot assigned to the communication target unit out of each of the communication target units, and transmits data to the at least one communication target unit during a period of a time slot that differs from the time slot assigned to the communication target unit out of each of the communication target units, and a controller that, in a case where the at least one communication target unit enters a sleep period during which the at least one communication target unit temporarily suspends transmission operation, controls, during the sleep period, the communication circuit section to transmit data during the period of the time slot assigned to the communication target unit, in place of the at least one communication target unit.

A method for performing a cell search in a multi-subscription device is provided. The method includes estimating, by a first subscriber identity module (SIM) of multiple SIMs of the multi-subscription device, search time information required for identifying one cell and margin time information for cell search, where the first SIM is associated with a first radio access technology (RAT); obtaining a discontinuous reception (DRX) period of a second SIM associated with a second RAT in the multi-subscription device; determining a number of cells to be searched during the DRX period based on the estimated information; performing a measurement for one or more cells to be searched based on the number of the cells; ranking the one or more cells based on the measurement; and initiating a cell search on one or more cells having a highest signal strength during the DRX period.
