Methods and apparatus for synchronization in multiple-channel communication systems
Methods and apparatus for processing multichannel signals in a multichannel receiver are described. In one implementation, a plurality of demodulator circuits may provide a plurality of outputs to a processing module, with the processing module then simultaneously estimating noise characteristics based on the plurality of outputs and generating a common noise estimate based on the plurality of outputs. This common noise estimate may then be provided back the demodulators and used to adjust the demodulation of signals in the plurality of demodulators to improve phase noise performance.

In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a communication device is provided, comprising: a receiver configured to receive one or more signals from an external communication device; a classifier configured to classify the external communication device using the signals received by the receiver and to output a corresponding classification result; and a processing unit configured to change one or more configuration settings of the communication device in dependence on the classification result. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating a communication device is conceived. In accordance with a third aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding computer program is provided.
Network-enabled connectivity for disadvantaged communication links
Devices, systems and methods for providing network-enabled connectivity for disadvantaged communication links in wireless networks are described. One example method for enabling connectivity over a disadvantaged link includes receiving, by a first node of a plurality of nodes from a source node in the first frequency band in a first timeslot, a first signal comprising a message, receiving, by the first node from at least a second node in a second frequency band in a second timeslot, a second signal that is used to generate a first reliability metric corresponding to the message, and performing, based on a plurality of reliability metrics corresponding to the message and the first reliability metric, a processing operation on the message, the first frequency band being non-overlapping with the second frequency band, and a duration of the first timeslot being greater than a duration of the second timeslot.

Using ISI or Q calculation to adapt equalizer settings
A method and apparatus for processing a signal to generate equalizer codes, which are used to control equalization of the signal, that comprises processing the signal to identify the eyes of the signal, and for each eye, calculating an eye height and calculating a noise value. For each eye, squaring the eye height to generate an eye height product and dividing the eye height product by the noise value to generate a Q.sup.2 value. Using the calculated Q.sup.2 values optimizing, through adaptation, the equalizer codes. Calculating the noise values may include calculating an ISI value for each band of the signal and then calculating the eye height for each eye as the difference between the adjacent upper average value and the adjacent lower average value. Then, for each eye, calculating a noise value by summing the ISI value for the band above the eye and the band below the eye.
AMPLITUDE OPTIMIZED REFLECTION CANCELLER IN PARALLEL CHANNEL EQUALIZERS
Methods and systems for equalizing signals are disclosed. In an example, a method for equalizing a digital signal at an equalizer, comprises: receiving, at the equalizer, a plurality of samples of the signal in a plurality of unit intervals (UIs) of a channel response of the digital signal, the plurality of samples comprising a first plurality of samples of a primary response and a second plurality of samples of one or more reflection responses; equalizing, by the equalizer, the first plurality of samples using a first set bitwidth; equalizing the second plurality of samples using one or more further set bitwidths, wherein the first set bitwidth is greater than each of the one or more further set bitwidths; and generating, by the equalizer, an equalized digital signal.
