Sub-nanosecond RF synchronization for MIMO software defined radio sensor networks

This disclosure presents distributed and decentralized synchronization for wireless transceivers. The disclosed system, device, and method achieve sub-nanosecond synchronization using low-cost commercial off the shelf software defined radios. By providing a decentralized mechanism that does not rely on a hierarchical master-slave structure, networks constructed as disclosed are robust to sensor drop-out in contested or harsh environments. Such networks may be used to create phased array radars and communication systems without requiring wired connections to distribute a common clock or local oscillator reference.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for detecting a presence of long training fields (LTFs) in packet extensions of high-efficiency (HE) packets. An apparatus requests a length of packet extensions to be used for a ranging operation. The apparatus receives an HE packet including a packet extension containing a selected number of LTFs based at least in part on the requested packet extension length. The apparatus performs the ranging operation based on a determination that the packet extension contains LTFs. In some aspects, the apparatus detects a presence of LTFs in the packet extension based on a bit provided in the HE packet. In some other aspects, the apparatus detects a presence of LTFs in the packet extension by extracting sequences from the packet extension.

The method comprises: acquiring a main peak and a secondary peak of a PRACH signal when detecting that an access signal is in the PRACH signal sent by the signal sending end, wherein the PRACH signal is composed of a preset number of identical leader sequences; determining a first frequency offset according to a peak value of the main peak and a peak value of the secondary peak; performing a frequency offset compensation on the PRACH signal according to the first frequency offset, to obtain a compensation sequence after the frequency offset compensation; and calculating a frequency offset between the compensation sequence and the leader sequences, to obtain a second frequency offset, so as to estimate a time delay of the access signal according to the second frequency offset.

Cyclic prefix (CP) detection and removal in a wireless communications system (WCS)

Cyclic prefix (CP) detection and removal in a wireless communications system (WCS) is disclosed. More specifically, embodiments disclosed herein relate to removing a CP(s) from a random-access symbol(s) in an open radio access network (O-RAN) communications system in the WCS. The random-access symbol(s) includes the CP followed by a random-access sequence. As such, the CP must be removed before the random-access sequence can be detected and processed. In this regard, in embodiments disclosed herein, the O-RAN communications system is configured to determine a group delay associated with the random-access symbol(s) to thereby accurately determine a start of the CP in the random-access symbol(s). Accordingly, the O-RAN communications system can detect and remove the CP from the random-access symbol(s) based on the determined start of the CP. As a result, it is possible to preserve integrity of the random-access symbol(s) to thereby reduce random-access latency in the WCS.
