ADVANCED LINK TRACKING FOR VIRTUAL CLUSTER SWITCHING
One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch system. The switch includes a port that couples to a server hosting a number of virtual machines. The switch also includes a link tracking module. During operation, the link tracking module determines that reachability to at least one end host coupled to a virtual cluster switch of which the switch is a member is disrupted. The link tracking module then determines that at least one virtual machine coupled to the port is affected by the disrupted reachability, and communicates to the server hosting the affected virtual machine about the disrupted reachability.
Network device safety protocol
In one embodiment, a network device, including packet processing circuitry, which includes at least one interface configured to receive packets, and packet forwarding circuitry configured to make respective forwarding decisions for respective ones of the packets, wherein the packet processing circuitry is configured to assign sequence numbers to the packets in at least one stage of packet processing, find missing packets in at least one corresponding later stage of the packet processing responsively to checking for missing sequence numbers among the assigned sequence numbers, and report the missing packets.
Automatic setup of failure detection sessions
For a network with host machines that are hosting virtual machines, a method for facilitating BUM (broadcast, unknown unicast, and multicast) traffic between a hardware switch (e.g., ToR switch) and the host machines is provided. The network has a set of host machines configured as a cluster of replicators for replicating BUM traffic from the hardware switch to the host machines. A set of network controllers establishes failure-detection tunnels for links between the hardware switch and the replicator cluster. The replicator cluster informs the set of controllers of a change in the membership of the replicator cluster to initiate an update to the active failure-detection sessions. The set of network controllers communicates with the replicator cluster and a ToR switch to establish bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) sessions between one or more replicator nodes in the replicator cluster and the ToR switch.

Technologies for assigning workloads to balance multiple resource allocation objectives
Technologies for allocating resources of managed nodes to workloads to balance multiple resource allocation objectives include an orchestrator server to receive resource allocation objective data indicative of multiple resource allocation objectives to be satisfied. The orchestrator server is additionally to determine an initial assignment of a set of workloads among the managed nodes and receive telemetry data from the managed nodes. The orchestrator server is further to determine, as a function of the telemetry data and the resource allocation objective data, an adjustment to the assignment of the workloads to increase an achievement of at least one of the resource allocation objectives without decreasing an achievement of another of the resource allocation objectives, and apply the adjustments to the assignments of the workloads among the managed nodes as the workloads are performed. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Switch, control apparatus, communication system, communication control method and program
A switch comprises: a register; a control entry holding part that holds control entries set by a predetermined control apparatus; a packet processing part that selects a control entry to be applied to a received packet by referring to a value on the register in addition to match conditions for the control entry; a register change part that changes the value on the register in a case where a change instruction for the value on the register is set to the control entry selected.
Technologies for switching network traffic in a data center
Technologies for switching network traffic include a network switch. The network switch includes one or more processors and communication circuitry coupled to the one or more processors. The communication circuitry is capable of switching network traffic of multiple link layer protocols. Additionally, the network switch includes one or more memory devices storing instructions that, when executed, cause the network switch to receive, with the communication circuitry through an optical connection, network traffic to be forwarded, and determine a link layer protocol of the received network traffic. The instructions additionally cause the network switch to forward the network traffic as a function of the determined link layer protocol. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Collection of error packet information for network policy enforcement
A network device may detect an error associated with a packet based on error information being generated from processing the packet at a layer of a network stack. The network device may determine, based on detecting the error, metadata associated with the packet. The network device may generate telemetry data to include the metadata. The network device may provide the telemetry data to a network analyzer for policy enforcement.
Switch device, vehicle-mounted communication device, vehicle-mounted communication system, time correction method, and time correction program
This switch device includes: a relay unit configured to perform a first relay process of relaying data between function units installed in a vehicle and belonging to different VLANs; a calculation unit configured to calculate time correction information on the basis of a transmission time of data from a first function unit serving as the function unit to the switch device, a reception time in the switch device of the data transmitted from the first function unit, a transmission time of data from a second function unit serving as the function unit to the switch device, and a reception time in the switch device of the data transmitted from the second function unit; and a notification unit configured to notify the second function unit of the time correction information calculated by the calculation unit.
