TELECOMMUNICATION AND MULTIMEDIA MANAGEMENT METHOD AND APPARATUS
A telecommunication and multimedia management apparatus and method that supports voice and other media communications and that enables users to: (i) participate in multiple conversation modes, including live phone calls, conference calls, instant voice messaging or tactical communications; (ii) review the messages of conversations in either a live mode or a time-shifted mode and to seamlessly transition back and forth between the two modes; (iii) participate in multiple conversations either concurrently or simultaneously; (iv) archive the messages of conversations for later review or processing; and (v) persistently store media either created or received on the communication devices of users. The latter feature enables users to generate or review media when either disconnected from the network or network conditions are poor and to optimize the delivery of media over the network based on network conditions and the intention of the users participating in conversations.
Resource segmentation to improve delivery performance
A flexible approach to segmenting a resource (e.g., a media resource, such as a media segment, or other resource, such as a resource normally fetched or pushed using general file transfer protocols like HTTP) into a plurality of fragments. By employing such an approach, the delay until the resource can be utilized at the client side is reduced. Certain embodiments are provided which apply the flexible segmentation approach to ISOBMFF media segments for video streaming, such as would be used with Live DASH streaming.
ABR VIDEO WHITE SPOT COVERAGE SYSTEM AND METHOD
A scheme for managing ABR streaming of content in a wireless radio network environment that may have radio white spot areas. Upon determining that the wireless UE device executing an ABR client application is in a radio white spot area, the current ABR streaming session may be suspended at a particular segment. Thereafter, playback of other content locally cached at the wireless UE device may be commenced in lieu of the ABR media segments. When the wireless UE device exits the radio white spot area, the ABR streaming session may be resumed from a point adjacent to the particular segment where the ABR streaming session was suspended.
COORDINATING VIDEO DELIVERY WITH RADIO FREQUENCY CONDITIONS
System and methods for modifying streaming data based on radio frequency information is provided. As radio transceivers transition move to a shared resource or cloud model and the existing radio transceivers are split into a baseband unit and a remote radio head, radio frequency (RF) information including power levels, encoding, data rates, and bandwidth can be provided to video optimization server. The RF information can be provided more frequently to allow real-time modifications to streaming video data. Existing protocols are reactionary in nature and perceive changing channel conditions indirectly. By providing RF information from the baseband unit on a low latency channel, modifications to the video stream can be made before an impact would be noticed at the protocol level. Also, policy information can be used to influence the changes made to streaming data in addition to the RF information.
ESTABLISHMENT OF CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET IN CELLULAR NETWORK
Some demonstrative embodiments include devices, systems and/or methods to establish a connection to the Internet via a local gateway (L-GW) function for a LIPA or a SIPTO@LN. The establishment of the connection to the Internet may be performed, for example, by at least one of an E-RAB SETUP procedure, an INITIAL CONTEXT SETUP procedure, an INITIAL UE MESSAGE procedure or an UPLINK NAS TRANSPORT procedure.
SEAMLESS CODEC SWITCHING
In various embodiments, a corpus of codecs may be correlated with different, partially overlapping ranges of transmission characteristics. As channel conditions degrade or improve, the system may select a new codec with which to continue the connection based upon the corresponding overlapping range. Codecs may not be switched immediately when the transmission characteristics enter overlapping ranges, to avoid degrading the user's experience. If the characteristics remain in the overlap, or manifest a likely progression toward another region, then the transition may be effected.
BUFFERING DATA ON HIGH BANDWIDTH NETWORKS
Techniques for buffering data over high bandwidth networks are provided. A first portion of data is downloaded, by a device, into a buffer at a first download speed via a first network connection. Upon determining that the device is downloading data via a second network connection, at a second download speed greater than the first download speed, a second portion of data is downloaded, via the second network connection, into a cache.
ASSISTED DELIVERY SERVICE FOR NETWORKS
Systems and methods are provided for switching computing devices between edge servers and peer groups. One example method includes receiving, at a client computing device and from a first computing device, media content. A request to initiate an assisted delivery service is sent from the client computing device to a second computing device. The assisted delivery service is initiated in response to the request. The assisted delivery service comprises identifying, at the second computing device, one or more peer computing devices receiving the media content. At the second computing device, instructions that enable the client computing device to discover at least one of the peer computing devices are generated. The instructions are sent from the second computing device to the client computing device. At the client computing device, a peer computing device is discovered. A request to receive a portion of the media content is sent from the client computing device to a discovered peer computing device. The portion of the media content is received at the client computing device from the peer computing device.
