In some embodiments, an electronic device facilitates suggesting and installing applications on the electronic device during device setup. In some embodiments, an electronic device facilitates transferring settings and information from another electronic device during device setup.

A method of authenticating a mobile station on an alternate communications network is disclosed, the mobile station being associated with a default communications network. The mobile station comprises a baseband processor to manage the antenna-related functions and a SIM card to accommodate a default SIM associated with the default communications network for receiving network credentials from the baseband processor. The method comprises providing a SIM card device to intercept communications between the baseband processor and the SIM card, monitoring the network credentials in respect of the network that the mobile station is actively in communication with, determining whether the mobile station needs to switch to an alternate network, and identifying or receiving from a user the alternate network, consulting a SIM bank, comprising at least one alternate SIM, and selecting an alternate SIM having a mobile station identification variable compatible with the alternate network, receiving a network authentication request on the mobile station from the alternate network, and allocating the selected mobile station identification variable to the mobile station so as to identify the user of the mobile station on the alternate network.

In a positioning system, a mobile device can detect a transmission from one of a number of lighting devices to obtain an identification (ID) label or code of each lighting device. The mobile device uses the detected ID code for a lookup in a self-stored or remotely stored table that associates lighting device location information with ID codes, to obtain an estimate of mobile device position. To mitigate against hacking by a third party detecting the ID codes and observing locations to compile its own lookup table, the disclosed examples dynamically alter the assignments of particular ID codes to the lighting devices, while minimizing potential disruption of position determination service for mobile devices due to the changes to ID code assignments.

An exemplary system does this by accessing a list of applications and associating each application with a respective entity which has a rewards program linked to a specific entity. The system issues a request for application information of the applications which are installed on the mobile computing device, identifies applications that match the list of applications in the data record, and generates at least one notification based on the identified applications and the rewards program. The system then displays the at least one notification.

The present invention comprises a system and method for receiving at an application server a request for a software application from a mobile device wherein the request includes an indicator that allows the application server to tell whether the mobile device currently has a software application interpreter installed, sending the software application interpreter to a cellular wireless network for provisioning to the mobile device if the indicator shows that the mobile device does not have the application interpreter installed, and sending the software application to a cellular wireless network for provisioning to the mobile device. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a system having a controller to collect a plurality of User Interface (UI) device configurations, receive a request from a computing device to download one or more of the plurality of UI device configurations, and transmit to the computing device the one or more UI device configurations requested to configure one or more UI devices of the computing device.
