A medium feeder includes a feed roller that feeds a medium loaded on a medium loading section; a transport roller disposed downstream relative to the feed roller; a first driving source that drives at least the feed roller; a second driving source that drives at least the transport roller; and a housing that houses the feed roller, the transport roller, the first driving source, and the second driving source, wherein the housing includes a lower unit that constitutes a lower part of the housing, and an upper unit openable relative to the lower unit, and the first driving source and the second driving source are disposed on both sides relative to a center part of the lower unit in a width direction perpendicular to a medium transportation direction.

Embodiments of systems and methods are disclosed herein to transfer a printed election sheet from a printer to a scanner, which is separate and distinct from the printer, without human intervention. More specifically, the present disclosure provides a retrofit automatic document feeder (ADF), which may be “retrofit” or adaptively coupled between a printer and a scanner for automatically transferring a printed election sheet output from the printer to the scanner, where it is scanned to generate a scanned image of the printed election sheet. Unlike conventional ADFs incorporated within printers, scanners and multi-function printers, the retrofit ADF disclosed herein is coupled to receive a printed election sheet output from an output port of the printer, advance the printed election sheet away from the output port of printer and automatically transfer the printed election sheet to an input port of the scanner.

In filter processing, a filter coefficient for which a weighting has been set is used for each of a plurality of pixels in a sub-scanning direction in a predetermined section of a main-scanning direction and the weighting for each of the plurality of pixels is determined such that a center of gravity of the weighting shifts in the main-scanning direction gradually from one end of the predetermined section to the other end.

A medium discharge device includes a discharge roller pair that is provided with a discharge driving roller and a discharge driven roller which drivably rotates in contact with the discharge driving roller, and a medium receiving tray which receives the medium that is fed and discharged by the discharge roller pair, in which the medium receiving tray includes a guide member which guides such that a tip end of the medium which is discharged from the discharge roller pair enters the medium mounting surface at a predetermined angle, and the guide member is provided to be elastically displaceable in an advancing and retreating direction with respect to the medium mounting surface of the medium receiving tray and is displaced in a direction coming close to the medium mounting surface according to raising of a pressing load due to the medium that is discharged to the medium receiving tray.

In a document feed device, in at least either one of a pair of first upstream conveyance rollers and a pair of first downstream conveyance rollers, at least a driven roller includes a plurality of driven rollers provided in a rotation axis direction, a first pressure load of a central driven roller against a drive roller is larger than a second pressure load of both-side driven rollers against drive rollers, and the second pressure load of the both-side driven rollers against the drive rollers is smaller than a third pressure load of a driven roller against a drive roller in a pair of second conveyance rollers other than the pair of first upstream conveyance rollers and the pair of first downstream conveyance rollers among a plurality of pairs of conveyance rollers.

An image forming apparatus includes: a photosensitive member; an exposure unit configured to divide one pixel into a plurality of pixel pieces and perform exposure on a pixel piece-by-pixel piece basis, to form an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member; a determination unit configured to determine, based on image data, an isolated pixel surrounded by blank pixels in the electrostatic latent image; a selection unit configured to select a correction target pixel from the blank pixels surrounding the isolated pixel; and a correction unit configured to correct the image data so as to expose a pixel piece of the correction target pixel.

An image reader used as a back surface reading unit includes LEDs, a first mirror, a second mirror, a third mirror, a lens, and a CCD inside a housing. The first mirror, which first reflects light reflected from the document, is positioned farther away from the document reading position than other reflecting mirrors (i.e. the second mirror and the third mirror) in an optical axis direction of the optical path connecting the document reading position and the first mirror.

A multifunctional printer comprising a printer section, an auto-document feeder, a scanner section, and a finisher, wherein a finisher path leads from the auto-document feeder into the printer section and converges with a print path into a shared finisher path leading to the finisher, such that documents scanned with the auto-document feeder can be conveyed to the finisher such that it can perform a finishing operation on the documents.

An image reading apparatus includes an image reading sensor, a transparent plate, a guiding member, a first roller pair, and a second roller pair provided upstream of the first roller pair with respect to a sheet feeding direction. The first roller pair and the second roller pair are disposed so as to nip a sheet in each of nips of the first roller pair and the second roller pair when a leading end of the sheet enters between the guiding member and the transparent plate.

A medium conveying apparatus includes an imaging unit provided to be movable in a direction perpendicular to a conveying surface for conveying a medium, to image the medium, a roller pair provided on an upstream side of the imaging unit in a medium conveying direction, the roller pair including a first roller provided to be movable in a direction perpendicular to the conveying surface, and a second roller facing the first roller, and a conveyance guide provided on a rotation shaft of the first roller, to move in conjunction with a movement of the first roller. The conveyance guide includes a guide surface extending at least from a downstream end portion of a nip portion of the roller pair to an upstream end portion of the imaging unit in the medium conveying direction and being flush with a lower surface of the imaging unit.
