A method includes receiving, at an intermediary layer, from a camera of a head mounted display (HMD), image data of a real-world operating environment of the HMD at a first time. The method further includes identifying, at the intermediary layer, one or more objects in the image data, determining, at the intermediary layer, coordinates of a region comprising the one or more identified objects, determining a display permission for the one or more identified objects, modifying the image data in the region comprising the one or more identified objects according to the display permission and outputting the modified image data to an application executing outside of the intermediary layer.

Display apparatus

A display apparatus includes a backlight source, a privacy filter disposed on the backlight source, a light adjusting panel disposed on the privacy filter, and a display panel disposed on the light adjusting panel. The light adjusting panel includes a first substrate, a first electrode, a second electrode, a first vertical alignment film disposed on the first substrate, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate, a second vertical alignment film disposed on the second substrate, and a positive liquid crystal layer disposed between the first vertical alignment film and the second vertical alignment film. The first electrode and the second electrode are disposed on the first substrate. Here, the first electrode has a plurality of first slits, and a plurality of orthogonal projections of the first slits on the first substrate overlap an orthogonal projection of the second electrode on the first substrate.

MULTIVIEW SYSTEM, METHOD AND DISPLAY FOR RENDERING MULTIVIEW CONTENT, AND VIEWER LOCALISATION SYSTEM, METHOD AND DEVICE THEREFOR

Described are various embodiments of a multiview system, method and display for rendering multiview content, and viewer localisation system, method and device therefor. In one embodiment, a multiview system is operable to interface with a mobile device of a given viewer, and comprises: a MultiView Display (MVD); a network-interfacing content-controller; one or more emitters disposed and operable to emit a respectively encoded time-variable emission in each of distinct viewing directions; and a mobile application operable on the mobile device of the given user to capture a given one of the encoded time-variable emissions when the mobile device is located so to intersect a corresponding one of the distinct directions so to self-identify the mobile device as being substantially in line with a corresponding one of the distinct viewing directions.

A virtual 3D display for a motor vehicle includes a substrate and a flexible display positioned on the substrate. The flexible display has two foldable sections and a main section. The main section provides a shared viewing area and each of the foldable sections provides a first and a second independent viewing area.

System and method for displaying location dependent content

A system and method for simultaneously displaying, in plural spatially distinct zones via a multi-view display, differentiated content is disclosed. In accordance with the method, a plurality of spatially distinct zones are defined, differentiated content is assigned to the zones, a location for at least some of plural landing spots of beamlets projected by multi-view pixels of the multi-view display is estimated, the spatially distinct zone in which each said landing spots resides is determined, and beamlets associated with said some landing spots are driven to cause an appropriate content portion to be viewable at said some landing spots, as a function of location in a particular spatially distinct zone.

Controlling light sources of a directional backlight

Disclosed is an imaging directional backlight including an array of light sources, and a control system arranged to provide variable distribution of luminous fluxes, scaled inversely by the width associated with the respective light sources in the lateral direction, across the array of light sources. The luminous intensity distribution of output optical windows may be controlled to provide desirable luminance distributions in the window plane of an autostereoscopic display, a directional display operating in wide angle 2D mode, privacy mode and low power consumption mode. Image quality may be improved and power consumption reduced.
