METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR SYNCHRONIZING PLAYBACK OF MEDIA CONTENT ITEMS

Systems and methods are described for synchronizing playback of media content items. A first media content item is displayed at first user equipment and second user equipment. At least one playback parameter relating to the operation of the first user equipment and/or the second user equipment is determined. A determination is made as to whether the at least one playback parameter is less than a first playback parameter threshold. In response to determining that the at least one playback parameter is less than the first playback parameter threshold, at least one playback characteristic of the first media content item at the first user equipment and/or the second user equipment is adjusted to cause the display of the first media content item at first user equipment and second user equipment to be synchronized.

Video playback quality detection methods, systems, and apparatuses are described. The method can include obtaining a first video data packet of a target video from a bearer network and obtaining a data byte quantity of first video data included in the first video data packet. The method may also include determining a buffer byte quantity stored in a video quality detection buffer. Furthermore, the method can include obtaining video frame data rate information corresponding to the target video and reducing the buffer byte quantity stored in the video quality detection buffer based on a video frame rate of the target video and the video frame data rate information of the target video. The method may further include determining a playback status of playing the target video on a video player, and determining video playback quality of the target video based on the playback status. According to the embodiments of the present invention, user experience and accuracy of the video playback quality detection method can be improved.

Seamless content encoding and transmission

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for encoding media content based on an ending delay of first media content and a startup delay of second media content. Second media content may be configured for transmission after first media content in a media content stream. The first media content may be associated with an ending delay corresponding to transmission and/or decoding of frames of the first media content. The second media content may be associated with a starting delay corresponding to transmission and/or decoding of frames of the second media content. The first media content and the second media content may be encoded using different encoding formats. Based on comparing the ending delay and starting delay to a threshold, encoding parameters may be selected, one or more frames may be removed from the first media content and/or the second media content, and/or buffers of one or more devices may be adjusted.

Systems and methods for streaming media content during unavailability of content server

Systems and methods are described herein for streaming during unavailability of a content server. Upon determining that there are conditions indicating buffering issues during delivery of a media asset, a server determines a first group of devices suitable for receiving the media asset from the server and sharing the media asset on a peer-to-peer network. Then, the server determines a second group of devices suitable for receiving the media asset on a peer-to-peer network from a first group device. The server then determines groupings within which to share and receive the media asset. Next, the server transmits instructions to the devices in the first group to maintain in buffer and share certain portions of the media asset with the second group devices within their grouping. Finally, the server updates information detailing the media asset portions the devices are maintaining in buffer and sharing.

Dynamically reducing stutter and latency in video streaming applications

A performance metrics of a receiver is obtained using frames of an application hosted by a server that are received via a network. The one or more performance metrics include information indicative of a current occupancy of a frame buffer corresponding to the receiver and information indicative of a target occupancy of the frame buffer corresponding to the receiver. The frame buffer of the receiver is used to queue frames of the application for display. A frame rate associated with rendering at least one next frame of the application is adjusted using the one or more performance metrics of the receiver to control population of the frame buffer. Subsequent frames of the application hosted by the server are rendered using the adjusted frame rate. Upon rendering the subsequent frames, the server sends the subsequent frames to the receiver for display.

Methods, systems, and media for adjusting quality level during synchronized media content playback on multiple devices

Methods, systems, and media for adjusting quality level during synchronized media content presentation are provided. In some embodiments, the method comprises: transmitting, from a server to a first user device, first media content data corresponding to a first stream of a media content item and from the server to a second user device, second media content data corresponding to a second stream of the media content item, wherein the first media content data is to be stored in a buffer of the first user device, and wherein the second media content data is to be stored in a buffer of the second user device; transmitting, from the server to the first user device and to the second user device, instructions that cause the first user device and the second user device to begin presenting the media content item simultaneously; determining, by the server, that the first media content data is being stored in the buffer of the first user device at a slower rate than the second media content data is being stored in the buffer of the second user device; in response to determining that the first media content data is being stored in the buffer of the first user device at a slower rate than the second media content data is being stored in the buffer of the second user device, selecting a third stream of the media content item corresponding to the first stream of the media content item, wherein the third stream of the media content item has a lower quality level than the first stream of the media content item; and transmitting third media content data corresponding to the third stream of the media content item to the first user device.

Methods to estimate video playback buffer

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method including monitoring a video session to determine key performance indicators for cross-layer interactions between a network providing video session video data and user equipment receiving the video session video data, wherein the key performance indicators include a transmission control protocol congestion window size that corresponds to a video chunk requested by the user equipment, and a radio access network throughput of a download of the video chunk requested by the user equipment, and determining a quality of service for the user equipment during the video session according to a residual length of content in a playback buffer for the user equipment based on the transmission control protocol congestion window size, and the radio access network throughput. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A system obtains a data set representing immersive video content for display at a display time, including first data representing the content according to a first level of detail, and second data representing the content according to a second higher level of detail. During one or more first times prior to the display time, the system causes at least a portion of the first data to be stored in a buffer. During one or more second times prior to the display time, the system generates a prediction of a viewport for displaying the content to a user at the display time, identifies a portion of the second data corresponding to the prediction of the viewport, and causes the identified portion of the second data to be stored in the video buffer. At the display time, the system causes the content to be displayed to the user using the video buffer.
