The present invention enables a receiving side to easily recognize a high-quality format corresponding to encoded image data included in an extended video stream. Two video streams including a basic video stream including encoded image data of basic format image data, and an extended video stream including encoded image data of high-quality format image data of one type selected from a plurality of types are generated. A container of a predetermined format including the basic video stream and the extended video stream is transmitted. Information indicating a high-quality format corresponding to the encoded image data included in the extended video stream is inserted into the extended video stream and/or the container.

Illustrative embodiments include a method, an electronic device, and a computer program product for video processing. In the method, a first group of image frames in a first video having a first resolution is converted into a second group of image frames having a second resolution, the first resolution being higher than the second resolution; a second video having the second resolution is generated based on the second group of image frames; conversion parameters for the second video are determined based on the first group of image frames and the second group of image frames, the conversion parameters being used to convert an image frame in the second group of image frames into an image frame having a third resolution, and the third resolution being higher than the second resolution; and the conversion parameters and the second video are sent to a requester of the first video.

A system and method for rendering a video stream for display on a display device, which may comprise receiving the video stream by streaming and generating display data defining a visible display area to be displayed by the display device, wherein generating of display data comprises rendering the video stream in a sub-area of the visible display area. A selection mechanism may be provided by which a version of the video stream may be selected for streaming having a spatial resolution and/or a bitrate which is selected based on a size of the sub-area.

The present invention provides a signal processing device including a receiver, a signal processor and a transmitter. The receiver is configured to receive a first video signal. The signal processor is coupled to the receiver and configured to support a plurality of scene modes, select a current scene mode form the plurality of scene modes according to a user input, and operate in the current scene mode to process the first video signal to generate a second video signal. The transmitter is configured to output the second video signal.

In a picture processing method, when receiving a first picture in a video stream, a decoder side determines, based on a base layer of the 1st sub-picture of the first picture, whether the first picture meets a first preset condition; and the decoder side sends a second picture within a display time period of the first picture for displaying if the first picture meets the first preset condition, where the second picture is a picture that is in the video stream and that is sent within a first display time period for displaying.

Enriching video-based content with additional content is enabled by defining metadata for a video comprising a place holder and matching attribute. When the video is viewed, a matching server is utilized to select an object to be inserted in the place holder according to the matching attribute. The matching server selects the object according to video content, represented by matching attribute, according to user related information, and according to type of place holder. The place holder may be utilized to dynamically insert an interactive object to the video. The inserted object may be seamlessly inserted to the video.

A player receives encoded content of a first resolution level from a content retransmitter and monitors bandwidth of the communication connection utilized to receive the content. When the bandwidth changes with respect to various threshold values corresponding to various resolution levels, the player signals the content retransmitter to increase or decrease the encoding resolution for future portions. The player also locates related substitute content. When the player signals the content retransmitter to decrease the resolution below a minimum, the player plays the substitute content instead of the received content. Subsequently when the bandwidth is again such that player signals the content retransmitter to increase the resolution to the minimum or above, the player plays the received content instead of the substitute content. In various implementations, the player may obtain substitute content prior to or at the time the player determines to play substitute content.

A video transmitting device includes a processor to extract a logo image from an entire content image, when the entire content image including a content image and the logo image is a moving picture image, to determine a compression ratio of the content image to be a first compression ratio and a compression ratio of the logo image to be a second compression ratio higher than the first compression ratio, a content compressing unit to compress the content image at the first compression ratio and to compress the logo image at the second compression ratio, based on the determined compression ratio, and a wireless communication unit to wirelessly transmit the compressed content image and the compressed logo image to a video receiving device.

A stream playout and distribution system is provided for disparate live media output stream playout and broadcast distribution. The system generates a new version of a disparate live media output stream manifest based on insertion of a plurality of segments of at least one of a pre-encoded media asset or a live input stream into the disparate live media output stream manifest. Each segment of the plurality of segments corresponds to a different quality level and a different content encryption mode. The plurality of segments corresponds to broadcast content segments encoded in a first encoding format of the new version of the disparate live media output stream manifest. The system converts the broadcast content segments encoded in the first encoding format to a second encoding format in accordance with a broadcasting protocol.
