A METHOD FOR ESTIMATING BANDWIDTH BETWEEN A VIDEO SERVER AND A VIDEO CLIENT
A method for estimating bandwidth between a video server and a video client for playing back a video stream includes video packets. The method involves the following steps performed by the video client: receiving the video packets from the video server wherein the video packets are transmitted by the video server at predetermined time intervals; calculating a difference in a size of the video packets and a difference in a time of reception of the video packets; and estimating the bandwidth based on the calculated difference in size and the calculated difference in the time of reception. The present disclosure further relates to a media player configured to perform the disclosed method.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR LATENCY REDUCTION OF AN IMAGE PROCESSING PIPELINE
In some implementations, a method includes: determining a complexity value for first image data associated with of a physical environment that corresponds to a first time period; determining an estimated composite setup time based on the complexity value for the first image data and virtual content for compositing with the first image data; in accordance with a determination that the estimated composite setup time exceeds the threshold time: forgoing rendering the virtual content from the perspective that corresponds to the camera pose of the device relative to the physical environment during the first time period; and compositing a previous render of the virtual content for a previous time period with the first image data to generate the graphical environment for the first time period.
STREAM REPAIR MEMORY MANAGEMENT
Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. Multiple memory buffers are used to manage broadcast packet repair and presentation or storage.
APPROACHES FOR COMPRESSING AND DISTRIBUTING IMAGE DATA
Systems and methods are provided for obtaining a set of images representing a view of a geographic region to be compressed, the set of images including a first image and a second image. A first image file can be generated based on the set of images, wherein the first image is encoded in a first color channel associated with the image file, and wherein the second image is encoded in a second color channel associated with the image file. A video file can be generated based at least in part on the image file. The video file can be provided to a client device over one or more computer networks.
Methods and systems for predictive buffering of related content segments
The methods and systems described herein aid users by providing thorough and efficient content consumption. For example, the methods and systems buffer content segments related to a current portion of the content that the system is generating for display. The methods and systems determine a characteristic of the current portion of the content and related content segments based on the characteristic. Confidence scores are determined by the systems and methods for each of the related content segments, and one or more related content segments with higher confidence scores are buffered in memory. Accordingly, the methods and systems described herein provide a thorough viewing of content through related segments that are buffered in memory for quick access.
Systems and methods for adjusting buffer size
Methods and systems are provided for adjusting a size of a buffer based on a probability that a rewind request will be received during a currently playing segment of media. When the system determines that receiving a rewind request is likely, the system will increase the size of a buffer such that the rewind request can be accommodated using data from the buffer. When the system determines that receiving a rewind request is unlikely, the system will decrease the size of the buffer to free resources for other system components.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ACHIEVING AD AVOIDANCE BY SELECTIVELY SWITCHING MEDIA STREAMS
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for avoiding playback of an advertisement by selectively switching between media streams. To this end, a media guidance application receives a plurality of media streams from different sources, switches to a first media stream and plays back a first media asset of the first media stream, and determines that an end to playback of the first media asset is imminent. The media guidance application then determines whether a second media stream of the plurality of media streams is within a threshold amount of time of playing back a beginning of a second media asset, and if the second media stream is within the threshold amount of time of playing back the beginning of the second media asset, the media guidance application switches from the first media stream to the second media stream and plays back the second media asset.
Signaling for addition or removal of layers in scalable video
In one embodiment, a method of signaling individual layers in a transport stream includes: determining a plurality of layers in a transport stream, wherein each layer includes a respective transport stream parameter setting; determining an additional layer for the plurality of layers in the transport stream, wherein the additional layer enhances one or more of the plurality of layers including a base layer and the respective layer parameter settings for the plurality of layers do not take into account the additional layer; and determining an additional transport stream parameter setting for the additional layer, the additional transport stream parameter setting specifying a relationship between the additional layer and at least a portion of the plurality of layers, wherein the additional transport stream parameter setting is used to decode the additional layer and the at least a portion of the plurality of layers.
Orientation Based, Aspect Ratio Switching Video Playback System
An orientation based, aspect-ratio switching video playback system selects from multiple video streams having corresponding content to automatically match the orientation of the device and play a version of the video filmed, produced and formatted for that orientation. Orientation changes may occur at any time during playback. When an orientation change is detected, the video playback system stores the current playback time, switches to the video stream optimized for the new orientation, and resumes playback from the stored playback time. Switching may be performed automatically and seamlessly to enable the viewer to continue watching the video in the new orientation, at the optimal aspect ratio for such orientation, using the full screen area without clipping any video content, and without interruption.
Transmission method, reception method, transmission device, and reception device
According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a transmission method for enabling transmission of content using a broadcast and a communication channel includes: transmitting playback control information and service information using at least the broadcast wave, the service information being information for playing back content transmission using the broadcast and content transmission using the communication channel when the content is transmitted using the broadcast and the communication channel. The service information includes attribute information indicating that the first content data and the second content data constitute the content and location information that indicates a location for acquiring meta-information on playback control of the second content. The playback control information includes indexes of a relationship between the first content data and the second content data.
