UPDATING MEDIA DEVICES IN A LOCAL NETWORK WITH A CLIENT-SERVER ARCHITECTURE
Systems, methods, and non-transitory, machine-readable media to facilitate updating media devices in a local network with a client-server architecture are disclosed. A primary media device may be configured to operate as a server in a local network, receive audio/video (A/V) content via an Internet connection and/or a satellite network connection, serve the A/V content to a set of one or more secondary media devices for display with at least one television of a set of one or more televisions, and receive a set of one or more software updates via the Internet connection, a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection, and/or the satellite network connection. One or more software updates of the set of one or more software updates may be specified for, and may be transferred to, the set of one or more secondary media devices.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FACILITATING STREAMING IN A LOCAL NETWORK WITH MULTIPLE SUBNETS
Systems, methods, and non-transitory, machine-readable media to facilitate streaming in a local network are disclosed. A primary media device may be configured to: operate as a server in a local network, receive audio/video (A/V) content, and provide the A/V content to a first display. A secondary media device may be communicatively connected to the primary media device and may be configured to: operate as a client with respect to the primary media device in the local network, receive the A/V content from the primary media device, and provide the A/V content to a second display. The primary media device and the secondary media device may use multiple subnets in the local network. The primary media device and/or the secondary media device may select a first subnet of the multiple subnets to use based at least in part on a type of content to communicate via the first subnet.
Dynamic adjustment of electronic program guide displays based on viewer preferences for minimizing navigation in VOD program selection
Items of video content offered for viewing on a video-on-demand (VOD) platform of a digital TV service provider are each assigned a respective title and hierarchical address corresponding to hierarchically-arranged categories and subcategories within which the title for the video content is to be categorized. The title is listed in a location of an electronic program guide (EPG) using the same categories and subcategories as its hierarchical address. Any TV subscriber can access the EPG and navigate through its categories and subcategories to find a title for viewing on the TV. The EPG dynamically adjust its display listings of each level of categories, subcategories, and titles in order to minimize the number of remote control keypresses needed for a viewer to navigate to a title of interest. In one basic form, the EPG display is reordered by listing more frequently visited categories or subcategories first, and other less frequently visited categories or subcategories lower on the listing or out-of-sight on another page of the display.
Systems and methods for enabling quick multi-application menu access to media options
Systems and methods for enabling quick access to media options are provided. A display of a plurality of icons is generated, wherein each of the plurality of icons represents a different one of a plurality of applications. A user input is detected that identifies a first of the plurality of icons associated with a first of the plurality of applications. In response to determining that the user input corresponds to a quick access operation, first and second media asset identifiers and corresponding media options are retrieved from each of second and third applications. A menu that includes the retrieved first and second media asset identifiers is generated for display with the plurality of icons.
Apparatus, systems and methods for content availability notification
Systems and methods are operable to notify a user of content availability. An exemplary embodiment receives a content availability notification request that specifies at least one content of interest, searches current electronic program guide (EPG) information to identify the content of interest, determines that the information identifying the specified content of interest is unavailable based upon the search of the current EPG information, generates a content availability reminder that is associated with the specified content of interest, monitors a content database to determine an availability of the specified content of interest identified in the content availability reminder, determines that the specified content of interest is available when the monitored content database indicates availability of the specified content of interest, and generates a content availability reminder notification that indicates at least a title of the specified content of interest.
Video-based competition platform
A video-based competition platform supports video-based competitions between possibly geographically distributed competitors. The video-based competition platform enables users of electronic communication devices to create, compete, view, and vote in video-based competitions. In at least some embodiments, a video-based competition is presented to a user with two or more video clips played in conjunction. The video clips may be synchronized to a time base and/or common audio clip.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS BASED ON USER-SUPPLIED CRITERIA
Methods and systems are proposed herein to address the inefficiencies in the recommendation schemes available. More specifically, the embodiments disclosed herein provide a new recommendation scheme, whereby a user enters various criteria for what he/she would like to be recommended. For example, the system may receive a user preference for content recommendations from a user. The system may retrieve a user profile for the user. The system may compare the user preference to the user profile to determine a criterion for content recommendations for the user. The system may receive a content attribute for content provided by a content provider. The system may match the criterion to the content attribute. The system may, in response to matching the criterion to the content attribute, generate for display a recommendation to the user for the content.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR MODIFYING A MEDIA CONTENT ITEM BASED ON USER REACTION
Systems and methods are described for modifying the content of a media content item. A a media content item is displayed on user equipment. A user reaction to one or more portions of the media content item is determined. The content of the media content item is modified based on the user reaction to one or more portions of the media content item.
Operating device, display control method, and recording medium recording display control program
An operating device according to the present invention includes a posture setter that sets a posture of the operating device with respect to a user to a first posture, a display processor that causes a predetermined object to be displayed toward a first direction in the display area of the operating device set to the first posture, a posture detector that detects a posture change of the operating device when the user changes the posture of the operating device, and a display changer that causes at least a part of object information included in the object to be displayed toward the first direction in the display area when the operating device changes the posture from the first posture to a second posture.
Method, apparatus, and non-transitory computer readable record medium for providing content based on user reaction related to video
A method, an apparatus, and a non-transitory computer-readable record medium for providing content based on a user reaction related to a video are provided. A content providing method includes: providing a user interface that comprises a plurality of interaction types to input one or more user reactions to a video during a playback of the video; storing a user reaction of a specific interaction type, which is input through the user interface among the plurality of interaction types, in association with a specific frame of the video based on a reaction input time at which the user reaction is input; and providing content related to the specific frame in response to a playback request associated with the user reaction.
