TILT VARIANCE METHOD OF DETECTING AND ACCOUNTING FOR TRUE MOTION OF IMAGERY SUBJECT TO ATMOSPHERIC TURBULENCE

A method for determining the likelihood that a pixel in a video image sequence represents true motion in the image. Light from a scene is captured to yield an original image having a sequence of frames. A prototype image is created from the original image as a geometrically accurate representation of the scene which is substantially free of contamination. A tilt variance-Gaussian mixture model and/or multi-variate Gaussian model, based upon optical turbulence statistics associated with the scene, is developed. Each pixel in the original image sequence of frames is evaluated against the prototype image using a probability density function, to yield a likelihood that the respective pixel represents true motion.

Apparatus and methods for the pre-processing of image data so as to enhance quality of subsequent encoding and rendering. In one embodiment, a capture device is disclosed that includes a processing apparatus and a non-transitory computer readable apparatus comprising a storage medium have one or more instructions stored thereon. The one or more instructions, when executed by the processing apparatus, are configured to: receive captured image data (such as that sourced from two or more separate image sensors) and pre-process the data to enable stabilization of the corresponding images prior to encoding. In some implementations, the pre-processing includes combination (e.g., stitching) of the captured image data associated with the two or more sensors to facilitates the stabilization. Advantageously, undesirable artifacts such as object “jitter” can be reduced or eliminated. Methods and non-transitory computer readable apparatus are also disclosed.

Various methods and systems are provided for image processing for multiple cameras. In one embodiment, a method comprises acquiring image frames with a plurality of image frame sources configured with different acquisition settings, processing the image frames based on the different acquisition settings to generate at least one final image frame, and outputting the at least one final image frame. In this way, information from different image frame sources such as cameras may be leveraged to achieve increased frame rates with improved image quality and a desired motion appearance.

Method and apparatus for implementing a digital graduated filter for an imaging apparatus

A digital graduated filter is implemented in an imaging device by combining multiple images of the subject wherein the combining may include combining different numbers of images for highlights and for shadows of the subject. The imaging device may present a user with a set of pre-defined graduated filter configurations to choose from. A user may also specify the direction of graduation and strength of graduation in a viewfinder. In an alternative implementation, combining may include scaling of pixels being added instead of varying the number of images being combined. In an alternative implementation, the combining of multiple images may include combining a different number of images for highlights of the subject than for shadows of subject.

Blur correction device, imaging apparatus, monitoring system, and non-transitory computer-readable storage medium

A blur correction device includes a processor and a memory that is built into or coupled to the processor. The processor is configured to acquire an amount of blur correction used to correct blurring of an image obtained by imaging of an imaging element during exposure for one frame in the imaging element, and correct the blurring by performing image processing based on a most recently acquired amount of blur correction, on an unfinished image that is the image less than one frame that is being read from the imaging element. In a case in which a first reading period does not overlap with a second reading period, the processor corrects the blurring by performing the image processing based on the amount of blur correction acquired during exposure between the first reading period and the second reading period, on the unfinished image of the subsequent frame.
