Examples are disclosed that relate to a compact optical systems comprising SLMs. One example provides a projection system comprising an illumination stage including a light emitting diode (LED) array. The LED array comprises a plurality of red LEDs, a plurality of green LEDs, and a plurality of blue LEDs. The illumination stage further comprises an illumination stage optical system configured to control an angular extent of light emitted by the LED array and homogenize the light emitted by the LED array. The projection system further comprises an image forming stage configured to form an image from light output by the illumination stage, the image forming stage comprising a spatial light modulator (SLM) configured to spatially modulate the light output by the illumination stage to form an image, and one or more projection optics configured to project the image formed by the spatial light modulator.

Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for the see-through computer display systems with adjustable-zoom cameras positioned such that their respective capture fields-of-view at least partially overlap at a target distance.

An image display system includes semiconductor light sources that output optical signals including modulated signal portions at timings different from each other, optical fiber cables that respectively transmit the optical signals, a light synthesizer that synthesizes the optical signals to output a synthesized optical signal, a light amount detector that detects an output light amount of the synthesized optical signal, a modulated signal detector that detects the modulated signal portions from the detected output light amount, an image modulator that modulates the synthesized optical signal according to an input image signal to output a modulated image light, and a light source controller that outputs drive control signals for respectively outputting the optical signals respectively including the modulated signal portions according to the image signal, and detects a failure of the optical fiber cables based on whether a modulated signal portion among the plurality of modulated signal portions is detected.

A multiplexed light field projector device and a multiplexed light field display to output a light field image is described. The projector has a projector base with a projection optical system configured to output light rays to form a projected image, a collimating optical system configured for collimation of the projected image light rays to form a second projected image, which is directed to a display optical system to produce a light field image. Light field projector devices or alternative projector devices may be used individually or in combination with one or more other projectors which can be arranged to form a multiplexed direct projection light field display. The arrangement of projector devices may have an individual or shared display optical system.

Image display apparatus and methods may use a single imaging element such as a digital mirror device (DMD) to spatially modulate plural color channels. A color channel may include a light steering element such as a phase modulator. Steered light from a light steering element may be combined with or replaced by additional light to better display bright images. These technologies may be provided together or applied individually.

A circuit apparatus is used in a laser projector that projects an image onto a projection surface by using laser beams having different wavelengths or a plurality of colors. The circuit apparatus includes a distortion correction circuit and an output circuit. The distortion correction circuit performs distortion correction on a color basis on display image data corresponding to the plurality of colors. The output circuit outputs the display image data as a result of the distortion correction. The distortion correction circuit performs the distortion correction on a color basis by using warp parameters different from one another among the plurality of colors.

A light source apparatus includes a light source, a light collection optical system configured to collect a pencil of light emitted from the light source using multiple lenses, a microlens array formed into a size corresponding to a collected light diameter of a pencil of light collected by the light collection optical system and caused to be incident thereon from the light collection optical system, and a display device on to which light transmitted through the microlens array to be superimposed together is incident.

There is provided a highly efficient virtual image projection device in a small size that displays images of high luminance in which an illumination system is reduced in size with no degradation in an effective luminous light beam. A virtual image projection device that shows video to a human eye includes a virtual light source surface (116) that emits a light beam in a predetermined angular distribution, an image forming lens (117) that condenses the light beam from the virtual light source surface (116), and a display (120) that creates video. When the virtual light source surface (116) is disposed at a nearly focal position on the front side of the image forming lens (117), the display (120) is disposed at a nearly focal position on the rear side of the image forming lens.

An optical system includes a light source configured to emit irradiation light, an optical modulation element having a plurality of reflection planes by which an incident light is reflected in a different direction, and an optical element having an interface through which the irradiation light emitted from the light source is emitted to the optical modulation element as the incident light and a first exit light reflected by the optical modulation element in a first direction is guided to a projection surface. Each one of the plurality of reflection planes is inclined with reference to a surface of the optical modulation element to reflect the incident light as the first exit light, and the surface of the optical modulation element is inclined with reference to the interface.

A projection apparatus including a liquid crystal on silicon panel and a processor is provided. The liquid crystal on silicon panel is configured to display a plurality of phase images. The phase images include a first phase image and a second phase image. The processor is coupled to the liquid crystal on silicon panel. The processor is configured to generate and output the phase images to drive the liquid crystal on silicon panel to display the phase images. The processor generates the first phase image according to a first phase information, and the processor generates the second phase image according to the first phase image.
