Beam combining for highlight projection

A novel projection system includes first and second light sources (e.g., sets of lasers), a spatial light modulator (SLM) that receives light from the first light source, and a beam steering device that receives light from the second light source and steers the light to highlight regions of the SLM. The SLM then modulates the light from both light sources to generate a highlighted imaging beam which can then be projected on a viewing surface. The highlighted imaging beam can represent a highlighted 2D image or a highlighted left- or right-eye view of a 3D image. The projection system thus improves peak brightness in the displayed highlighted images without incorporating a separate highlight projector or other expensive equipment. Methods for highlighting projected images are also described.

The behavior interferometer is configured to adjust and control a behavior state of the pet according to the behavior state parameters and an additional road sign image provided by the secondary sensor. The laser projector is configured to project a laser beam to form a structural light spot, so that the pet changes toward the behavior state adjusted by the behavior interferometer.

In one example, a pixel array includes first and second columns of pixels, relay optics configured to receive incident light and to output the incident light to a viewer, and a scanning mirror disposed to receive the light from the first and second columns of pixels and to reflect the received light toward the relay optics. The scanning mirror may move between a plurality of positions while the first and second columns emit light in temporally spaced pulses so as to form a perceived image at the relay optics having a higher resolution relative to the pixel pitch of the individual columns. Foveated rendering may provide for more efficient use of power and processing resources.

An optical device is disclosed. The optical device has 1) a phase modulation layer, 2) a partially reflective layer, and 3) a phase compensation layer. When incident lights pass through the phase modulation layer, the partially reflective layer reflects and scatters the light back to the viewers. The direction and profile of the reflected light are determined by the phase modulation profile. When light passes through both the phase modulation layer and the phase compensation layer, its phase modulation is compensated to a substantially small level. Therefore, the transparent light passes through the optical device just like passing through a parallel transparent substrate without any disturbance.
