Efficient, dynamic, high contrast lensing with applications to imaging, illumination and projection
A new projector design combines one spatial light modulator that affects only the phase of the illumination, and one spatial light modulator that only affects its amplitude (intensity). The phase-only modulator curves the wavefront of light and acts as a pre-modulator for a conventional amplitude modulator. This approach works with both white light and laser illumination, generating a coarse image representation efficiently, thus enabling, within a single image frame, significantly elevated highlights as well as darker black levels while reducing the overall light source power requirements.
Systems, devices, and methods for driving projectors
Systems, devices, and methods for driving projectors are described. The actual area projected over by a laser projector for a given pixel may not exactly match a desired projection area for the pixel, especially at edge regions of an image. In the present systems, devices, and methods, projection data is provided for at least one image to be projected by a laser projector. The projection data can include sets of alternative data sections at edge regions of the at least one image, effectively increasing resolution for the edge regions of the image. Depending on a projection pattern being used by a laser projector at a given time, select alternative data sections can be projected which closely match the actual area covered by the projection pattern, improving image quality.

The electronic apparatus includes: a memory configured to store an image; a sensor part including at least one sensor; a projection part including a projection lens configured to output the image to a projection surface; and a processor configured to acquire distance information from the electronic apparatus to the projection surface through the sensor part, acquire output size information of the image based on the acquired distance information, acquire projection surface information corresponding to a bend of the projection surface through the sensor part, acquire movement information of the projection lens based on the output size information of the image and the projection surface information, and control the projection part to output the image based on the movement information.
Method and apparatus for remapping pixel locations
An apparatus and method for optically remapping projected pixels to maximize the utilization and to optimize the distribution of remapped projection pixels to achieve optimal visual performance (generally uniform resolution and luminance). A device interposed between a projector and an imaging surface for optically remapping projected pixel locations with minimal aberration. When this device is interposed between a projector and an imaging surface, it changes the terminal location of each focused pixel such that it maximally coincides with the imaging surface, which is often a surface of complex curvature and very different from the native focal surface of the projector. One implementation of the technology includes a device that uses multiple optical surfaces.
OPTICAL DEVICE FOR ENHANCING RESOLUTION OF AN IMAGE
The invention relates to an optical device (1) for enhancing the resolution of an image, comprising: a transparent plate member (10) configured for refracting a light beam (20) passing through the plate member (10), which light beam (20) projects an image comprised of rows and columns of pixels (40), a carrier (50) to which said transparent plate member (10) is rigidly mounted, wherein the carrier (50) is configured to be tilted between a first and a second position about a first axis (A), such that the plate member (10) is tilted between the first and the second position about the first axis (A), whereby said projected image (30) is shifted by a fraction (ΔP) of a pixel, particularly by a half of a pixel, along a first direction (x), and an actuator means (60) that is configured to tilt the carrier (50) and therewith the plate member (10) between the first and the second position about the first axis (A).
PROJECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD OF DRIVING A PROJECTION SYSTEM
A projection system and method includes a light source configured to emit a light in response to an image data; a phase light modulator configured to receive the light from the light source and to apply a spatially-varying phase modulation on the light; and a controller configured to determine, for a frame of the image data, a plurality of phase configurations, respective ones of the plurality of phase configurations corresponding to solutions of a phase algorithm and representing the same image with a different modulation pattern, and provide a phase control signal to the phase light modulator, the phase control signal configured to cause the phase light modulator to modulate the plurality of phase configurations in a time-divisional manner within a time period of the frame, thereby to project a series of subframes within the time period.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING DISPLAY DEVICE AND DISPLAY DEVICE
A method of controlling a display device includes the steps of displaying a first image in a first size on a display surface, displaying the first image and a second image which has the first size and is different from the first image on the display surface when an operation of changing a size of the first image is started, displaying the first image in the first size on the display surface when the operation continues, displaying the second image in a size different from the first size on the display surface based on the operation when the operation continues, and displaying the first image in a second size based on the operation on the display surface when the operation terminates.
