Apparatus, Methods and Computer Programs for Performing Acoustic Echo Cancellation
An AEC system can implement different updating techniques for echo cancellation. A Block Maximum Likelihood updating technique updates filter coefficients typically at integer multiples of a block size. A Proportional-Incremental Maximum Likelihood updating technique applies proportional weighting to the updates of filter coefficients. A Multi-source Incremental Maximum Likelihood updating technique uses separate control parameters associated with each of multiple loudspeakers. Combinations of these may be used, and one or more of these can be selected and implemented in real-time.
Touchless interaction using audio components
The present teachings relate to an electronic device comprising: a first module for generating an audio signal; a second module for generating an ultrasonic signal; a mixer for generating a combined signal; a transmitter for outputting an acoustic signal dependent upon the combined signal; and, a processing means for controlling the ultrasonic signal; wherein, in response to receiving a first instruction signal for initiating the ultrasonic signal, the processing means is configured to increase the amount of the ultrasonic signal in the combined signal from an essentially zero value to a predetermined value over a predetermined enable time-period. The present teachings also relate to an electronic device configured to decrease the amount of the ultrasonic signal in the combined signal from an essentially zero value to a predetermined value over a predetermined disable time-period, and to an electronic device configured to remove the audio signal from the combined signal whilst preventing pop-noise, and to an electronic device capable of replacing the ultrasonic signal whilst minimizing the processing time. The present teachings further relate to a method for reducing the occurrence of pop noise in an acoustic signal associated with: initiating the ultrasonic signal in the combined signal, terminating the ultrasonic signal in the combined signal, terminating the audio signal in the combined signal, and replacing the ultrasonic signal in the combined signal. The present teachings also relate to a computer software product for implementing any of the method steps disclosed herein, and to a computer storage medium storing the computer software herein disclosed.
METHODS, SYSTEMS, AND MEDIA FOR AMBIENT BACKGROUND NOISE MODIFICATION BASED ON MOOD AND/OR BEHAVIOR INFORMATION
Methods, systems, and media for ambient background noise modification are provided. In some implementations, the method comprises: identifying at least one noise present in an environment of a user having a user device, an activity the user is currently engaged in, and a physical or emotional state of the user; determining a target ambient noise to be produced in the environment based at least in part on the identified noise, the activity the user is currently engaged in, and the physical or emotional state of the user; identifying at least one device associated with the user device to be used to produce the target ambient noise; determining sound outputs corresponding to each of the one or more identified devices, wherein a combination of the sound outputs produces an approximation of one or more characteristics of the target ambient noise; and causing the one or more identified devices to produce the determined sound outputs.
Voice controlled assistant with coaxial speaker and microphone arrangement
A voice controlled assistant has a housing to hold one or more microphones, one or more speakers, and various computing components. The housing has an elongated cylindrical body extending along a center axis between a base end and a top end. The microphone(s) are mounted in the top end and the speaker(s) are mounted proximal to the base end. The microphone(s) and speaker(s) are coaxially aligned along the center axis. The speaker(s) are oriented to output sound directionally toward the base end and opposite to the microphone(s) in the top end. The sound may then be redirected in a radial outward direction from the center axis at the base end so that the sound is output symmetric to, and equidistance from, the microphone(s).
Food intake monitor
Systems and methods for monitoring food intake include an air pressure sensor for detecting ear canal deformation, according to some implementations. For example, the air pressure sensor detects a change in air pressure in the ear canal resulting from mandible movement. Other implementations include systems and methods for monitoring food intake that include a temporalis muscle activity sensor for detecting temporalis muscle activity, wherein at least a portion of the temporalis muscle activity sensor is coupled adjacent a temple portion of eyeglasses and disposed between the temple tip and the frame end piece. The temporalis muscle activity sensor may include an accelerometer, for example, for detecting movement of the temple portion due to mandibular movement from chewing.
Audio communication in a vehicle
An audio communication system for communication between vehicle occupants in a vehicle, including an image capturing device configured to monitor a first vehicle occupant, a processor configured to receive an image of the first vehicle occupant from the image capturing device and determine whether the first vehicle occupant is attracting attention from a second vehicle occupant, a first microphone associated to the first vehicle occupant configured to receive an audio input from the first vehicle occupant in response to the determination of the first vehicle occupant attracting the second vehicle occupant's attention, and a first speaker associated to the second vehicle occupant configured to activate an audio augmentation of the received audio input in the first speaker and output the augmented audio input.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING THE PROPAGATION OF ACOUSTIC WAVES ON A WALL
A method and a device for controlling the propagation of acoustic waves in the vicinity of a wall, the method and device implementing a master device for controlling a set Nc of cells primarily made up of a speaker, a set of Nm microphones connected to the speaker, and a control unit, by means of control laws that determine the intensity of the electrical signal that must be sent to each speaker so as to obtain a target determined generalized acoustic impedance for each speaker, such that a fraction of the acoustic waves is absorbed by the membrane of each speaker.

Earpieces and methods for acute sound detection and reproduction are provided. A method can include measuring an external ambient sound level (xASL), monitoring a change in the xASL for detecting an acute sound, estimating a proximity of the acute sound, and upon detecting the acute sound and its proximity, reproducing the acute sound within an ear canal, where the ear canal is at least partially occluded by an earpiece. Other embodiments are disclosed.

In one or more implementations, the airflow sensor may be formed, in part, by a mesh structure that spans a port in a housing of the electronic device. In one or more implementations, the airflow sensor may be formed, in part, by an exposed portion of a conductive trace of the speaker.
Acoustic Apparatus
An acoustic apparatus includes a class-D amplifier including a current feedback circuit, and a speaker system including a voice coil driven by the class-D amplifier. The speaker system is configured such that, in a case where the speaker system is driven by an ordinary amplifier having a first output resistance lower than a second output impedance of the class-D amplifier, a Q factor of the speaker system falls below a predetermined lower limit of an ordinary Q factor range of an ordinary speaker system. The current feedback circuit is configured to increase the second output impedance of the class-D amplifier by feeding a current flowing to the voice coil back to an input of the class-D amplifier so as to increase a Q factor as the acoustic apparatus higher than the predetermined lower limit of the ordinary Q factor range and within the ordinary Q factor range.
