Cold worked metal housing for a portable electronic device
A cold worked stainless steel bezel for a portable electronic device is provided. The bezel is secured flush to a housing to form part of the case of the portable electronic device. A brace that includes a slot for receiving a wall extending from the bezel is fixed to the housing. When the bezel engages the housing, the wall of the bezel is inserted in the slot of the brace and releasably held by a spring that engages both the brace and the wall. The bezel can be released by disengaging the spring, (e.g., using a special tool or a magnetic field). Because the bezel is manufactured from cold worked stainless steel, it is hard and resistant to impacts. Cold worked steel also facilitates manufacturing within design constraints and tolerances, and requires very little machining after manufacturing to comply with those constraints.

Method for manufacturing gear
The present disclosure provides a method for manufacturing a gear capable of processing a projection formed on a tooth tip by shot peening while reducing time for manufacturing the gear. A method for manufacturing a gear includes: a process of hardening, by performing shot peening in which shot particles are jetted onto a tooth surface 1a of a gear base material, the tooth surface while applying residual stress to the tooth surface; a process of softening, by at least heating a tooth tip of the gear base material having the hardened tooth surface, the tooth tip; and a process of rotationally driving the gear base material having the softened tooth tip by engaging it with another gear.
Method for producing a workpiece provided with a toothing or profiling
A method for producing a workpiece having a toothing or profiling, including the steps: a) soft machining the workpiece to produce the toothing or profiling; b) hardening the toothing or profiling; c) hard fine machining the toothing or profiling with a first tool that is a grinding worm, a grinding wheel or a honing wheel, wherein the first tool has a base body with a first elastic modulus; d) reinforcement of at least a section of the workpiece by shot blasting; and, following step d), e) repeated hard fine machining of the toothing or profiling with a second tool that is a grinding worm, a grinding wheel, a set of grinding wheels or a honing wheel. The second tool has a plastic or rubber base body with a second elastic modulus which is at most 33% of the first elastic modulus.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING A WORKPIECE PROVIDED WITH A TOOTHING OR PROFILING
A method for producing a workpiece having a toothing or profiling, including the steps: a) Soft machining the workpiece, in which the toothing or profiling is produced; b) Hardening the toothing or profiling; c) Hard fine machining the toothing or profiling, wherein the toothing or profiling is machined with a first tool that is a grinding worm, a grinding wheel or a honing wheel, wherein the tool has a base body with a first elastic modulus; d) Reinforcement of at least a section of the workpiece by a shot blasting process; and, following step d): e) Repeated hard fine machining of the toothing or profiling, wherein the toothing or profiling is machined with a second tool that is a grinding worm, a grinding wheel, a set of grinding wheels or a honing wheel. The second tool has a base body with a second elastic modulus which is at most 33% of the first elastic modulus. The second tool has a base body made of a plastic or rubber.
Burnishing machine
A burnishing machine is provided in which both sides of a groove is machined by a single tool without changing the movement direction of a piston. The burnishing machine, includes: a tip configured to press and process a process face; and a pressurizing unit configured to press the tip against the process face, the pressurizing unit including, a piston configured to reciprocate in a direction orthogonal to the tip, a cylinder portion that accommodates the piston such that the piston reciprocates; and a pressurizing mechanism configured to urge the tip to the process face at both timing of pushing the tip against the process face and pulling the tip against the process face by making the piston reciprocate.
