Installation of Gear Assemblies in Aircraft Gearboxes
A method of assembling an aircraft gearbox. The method includes mounting an outer race and a plurality of rollers of a roller bearing in an opening of a gearbox housing, mating a cylindrical guide sleeve having a lead-in chamfer with a gear assembly having a gear and a cylindrical shaft such that a trailing shoulder of the guide sleeve is positioned proximate a leading shoulder of the shaft, the shaft including an inner race of the roller bearing, axially passing the lead-in chamfer of the guide sleeve through the plurality of rollers, radially outwardly urging the rollers toward the outer race with the guide sleeve, axially passing the leading shoulder of the shaft through the plurality of rollers, positioning the inner race relative to the plurality of rollers to form the roller bearing and removing the guide sleeve from the gear assembly.
METHOD OF MOUNTING A BEARING TO AN AIR COMPRESSOR, AND AIR COMPRESSOR HAVING A BEARING MOUNTED BY THE METHOD
A method of mounting a bearing to an air compressor including a shaft element having a first end defining a central cylindrical recess and a second is disclosed, which includes the steps of: fixing the second end of the shaft element to a center of a gear; inserting the first end of the shaft element through a central hole of a bearing to have an annular step of the shaft element abutted an inner ring of the bearing; and hitting the first end of the shaft element by a striking tool with a central pin to form an outwardly extending rim on the first end of the shaft element. With the method, the bearing can be firmly fixed between the outwardly extending rim and the annular step of the shaft element.
High performance air journal bearing
An air journal bearing for a rotatable shaft of a turbomachine includes a journal sleeve having an inner cylindrical surface and a central axis defining longitudinal and radial directions, a top foil disposed radially inboard of the journal sleeve and configured to receive the rotatable shaft, and a bump foil disposed between the top foil and the journal sleeve and configured to bias at least a portion of the top foil against an outer surface of the rotatable shaft. At least one of the bump foil and a radially extending segment of the top foil is formed contiguous with the inner cylindrical surface. The journal sleeve, the top foil and the bump foil may be formed as a single piece made of selectively sintered ceramic-metal powder.
TOLERANCE RING ASSEMBLY
A tolerance ring having a first axial end, a second axial end, and a central axis, the tolerance ring including an annular band; a plurality of protrusions, all of the plurality of protrusions extending from the annular band; and a guide portion extending from the annular band towards the first axial end of the tolerance ring, where the guide portion includes a guide surface that is curved in an axial section.
Method of using a tolerance ring
A tolerance ring has a hollow band with outwardly extending corrugated protrusions forming waves that engage an inner surface of a bore of a housing. At one end of the tolerance ring is an inwardly flared guide surface extending axially and radially from the band. The guide surface acts as a tapered entrance to assist the insertion of a shaft into the hollow band during assembly of the ring into the bore of the housing.
Bearing assembly and method
A bearing assembly is disclosed. The bearing assembly includes a first race. Further, the bearing assembly includes a second race disposed concentric to the first race, where the second race has a radius that changes along an axial length of the bearing assembly. The bearing assembly also includes a housing disposed around the second race and operatively coupled to the second race. Moreover, the bearing assembly includes a plurality of support structures configured to detachably couple the second race to the housing, where the plurality of support structures are configured to disengage the second race from the housing to allow motion of the second race when a torque on the second race is greater than a threshold torque value.
Systems and methods for preloading a bearing and installing a tamper indicating member
An apparatus for use in connecting a cover member to a retaining member coupled to a nut mounted to a shaft includes a body portion, arms, and a plurality of pressing members. The arms extend from the body portion relative to the nut such that contacting portions of the arms contact a rear side of the nut to connect the body portion to the nut. The plurality of pressing members extend from the body portion and is alignable with the plurality of tabs of a cover member when the cover member is located between the body and the nut. The body portion includes a press mechanism configured to cause a first pressing member of the pressing members to contact a first tab of the cover member to deform the first tab toward a retaining member coupled to the nut mounted on the shaft.
Permanent magnetic electrical machine with bearing release system and method for bearing replacement
A method and apparatus for bearing replacement in an electrical machine is provided. An electrical machine is provided, comprising a stator with at least one stator winding, the stator defining a centre axis, and a rotor comprising magnetic material and having a first end and a second end. The electrical machine further comprises at least one bearing including a first bearing and supporting the rotor in an operational position in relation to the stator allowing the rotor to rotate in relation to the stator about the centre axis, and at least one support element including a first support element and adapted to support the rotor in relation to the stator such that the at least one support element in a support position supports the rotor centred about the centre axis, thereby allowing replacement of the first bearing, the support element in the support position being at least partly positioned between the rotor and the stator in a direction perpendicular to the centre axis.
