Systems and methods for centering bearing compartments
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for dressing centering a bearing compartment in a gas turbine engine. A nut may be inserted through an outer case of a gas turbine engine. The nut may be coupled to a strut which centers a bearing compartment. The nut may be rotated to achieve a desired tension on the strut to center the bearing compartment. A retaining plate comprising a collar may be positioned over the nut. A swaging tool comprising a swaging ramp may be positioned over the nut. The swaging tool may be forced against the retaining plate using a draw-in bolt. The swaging ramp may contact the collar and form indentations in the collar to lock the nut in place.
Self-aligning swaging punch and method for swaging
A self-aligning swaging punch is provided for adjoining together a pin and a workpiece having a pinhole. The swaging punch comprises a shaft and a tip having an open-ended cavity. The shaft transfers an axial force from a press or hammer to the tip. The tip transfers the axial force from the shaft to a top surface of the workpiece near the pinhole. The tip may be spherical in shape for evenly deforming the workpiece near the upper edge of the pinhole. The open-ended cavity receives the pin therein and allows the pin to extend at least partially into the open-ended cavity while the tip contacts the workpiece. The open-ended cavity also ensures that the swaging punch is aligned with the pinhole and perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece when the pin is inserted into the pinhole such that the workpiece evenly deforms and presses against the pin.
Compressor cover assembly method and forming tool
A method of assembling and retaining a noise attenuation device (30) within an air inlet (16) of a compressor cover (12) includes inserting the noise attenuation device (30) into the air inlet (16) and applying a rolling compressive force to the air inlet (16) using a forming tool (40). As a result, the air inlet terminal end (17) is deformed radially inward so as to form a radially-inwardly protruding lip (17b) about the air inlet terminal end (17). The radially-inwardly protruding lip (17b) is configured to retain the noise attenuation device (30) within the air inlet (16). The forming tool (40) used to form the radially-inwardly protruding lip (17b) is also described.

System and method for manufacturing a top mount
A system and method for manufacturing a top mount for a vehicle suspension includes loading a top mount body, a journal, and a plurality of knurled studs into a lower die assembly. The lower die assembly includes a stationary die base, a floating die top, and a pusher shaft. A pusher head assembly applies a downward pressure to insert the knurled studs into the top mount body, while the pusher shaft substantially simultaneously applies an upward pressure to insert the journal into the top mount body. The floating die top and the pusher head assembly are raised in tandem to eject the top mount from the stationary die base. The floating die top and the pusher head assembly then retract so that the top mount can be removed from the system.
