FABRICATION OF NANOFIBERS AS DRY ADHESIVES AND APPLICATIONS OF THE SAME
A dry adhesive including a non-woven fabric of nanofibers comprising a polymeric material. The nanofibers include an average diameter within a range of from 50 nm to 10000 nm, and the non-woven fabric of nanofibers has a thickness within a range of from 0.1 μm to 100 μm. The dry adhesive has a shear adhesion strength that is higher than the normal adhesion strength. Additionally disclosed is a dry adhesive fiber mat including substantially aligned fibers extending lengthwise from a first region to a second region, each of the fibers having a diameter that is less than or equal to 10 microns. The dry adhesive fiber mat is selectively repositionable to, from, and between a mechanically interlocked state wherein the fibers at the first region are intimately positioned within void spaces between the fibers at the second region and a separated state not intimately positioned as such.
Electrospun aligned nanofiber adhesives with mechanical interlocks
A dry adhesive includes a first plurality of fiber segments mechanically interlocked with a second plurality of fiber segments. A dry adhesive can include a first plurality of fibers mechanically interlocked with a second plurality of fibers or a single plurality of fibers having a first end region mechanically interlocked with a second end region. The fiber segments and fibers can be aligned, electrospun nanofibers. One or more continuous and scalable methods of making aligned fibers are also provided. One or more apparatuses are also provided.
Automated end fitting installation system and method
Sucker rods include end fittings having an outer wedge portion proximate to an open end, an inner wedge portion proximate to a closed end, and an intermediate wedge portion between the outer and inner wedges. Each wedge includes a leading edge, a trailing edge, and an angle between the leading and trailing edges. The triangular configuration, length of the leading edge, the length of the trailing edge, and size of the angle in each wedge portion cause distribution of force, such that compressive forces distributed to the rod proximate the closed end exceed compressive forces distributed to the rod proximate the open end. An automated installation procedure installs the end fitting through the use of multiple chucks, positioned by servo motors along a fitting table.

Systems and methods for forming a pipe carcass using multiple strips of material
The present embodiments are directed to systems and methods for forming a pipe carcass. In one embodiment, a first series of forming rollers are configured for forming a primary carcass strip material. A second series of forming rollers are configured for forming a second strip material into a shape different than the primary carcass strip material. The primary carcass strip material and the second strip material, after being fed through the first and second series of rollers, respectively, are each fed concurrently into a plurality of winding rolls for assembly with one another.
Method for producing an underwater pipe
A method for producing a tubular underwater pipe including: assembling a structure of peripheral metal elements (3A, 3B, 3C) wound in an S-Z configuration about a central flexible core (1) as the core is driven in movement along its longitudinal axis; providing an inductive sensor (12) arranged for rotation about the central flexible core (1) in a manner synchronized with the longitudinal movement of the core so that the sensor scans the periphery of the structure opposite and in the immediate proximity of peripheral elements wound about the core and during the assembly step; using the sensor (12) to acquire measurement signals (S) of which the amplitude varies according to whether or not the sensor (12) is located opposite a peripheral element during the rotation of the sensor (12); and using the measurement signals to control the positioning of the assembled peripheral elements.
