ENERGY ABSORBING LATCH SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A door latch (100, 400, 500, 600, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900) resists opening of a door (200) beyond a predetermined amount when it is engaged and also allows the opening of the door when it is disengaged. The door latch includes a catch (220, 220′, 3220) and a base (191) that is connected to a deformable member (140, 3140, 4140, 5140, 6140) at a joint (90). The joint configures the door latch and may include a pin (190). The catch (e.g., a hook) engages a catching portion (e.g., a loop 148, 3148, 6148) of the deformable member when engaged. The deformable member may stretch at least five percent when resisting an intrusion load (F) on the door. The base may mount to a door frame (300), and the catch may mount to the door. A spring (180) may urge the deformable member toward engagement. A shield (280, 2280, 4280, 5280, 6280) may protect the deformable member and resist cutting and may pivot with the deformable member urged by the spring. A finger pocket (296) may be used to overcome the spring. A detent (187) may retain a disengaged configuration (70), and a button (130) on the pin may be depressed to release the detent. A keeper (260) may retain an engaged configuration (50), even when the intrusion load alternates. An armed configuration (40) may automatically transition to the engaged configuration upon the door reaching the predetermined amount and may be manually transitioned to the disengaged configuration upon operator manipulation. The deformable member may hyperelastically deform.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INSTALLING ALARM SYSTEMS AND DOOR LOCKS
A method and apparatus for marking positions for burglar alarm sensor elements on a door, the door attached to a frame having a header including comprising the steps of providing a marking apparatus the marking apparatus including an arm arm, a positioning member with a longitudinal centerline attached to the arm, and punch point attached to the positioning member, the punch point being aligned with the longitudinal centerline of the positioning member; at least partially opening the door; placing the positioning member in a hole in the header and closing the door; while the door is closed causing the positioning member to make a mark on the top of the door; and opening the door and removing the positioning member from the hole in the header; and causing an opening to be made in the door at the location of the mark.
Door latch protector system and spacer
A door latch protector system for protecting a latch of a door. An exemplary embodiment includes a latch protector plate including a door overlapping portion and a frame overlapping portion, the door overlapping portion having a first planar surface configured to contact the exterior door surface in an installed configuration. At least one spacer plate is configured to be positioned between the door overlapping portion and a surface of the door. The spacer plate includes opposed first and second planar spacer surfaces, the first planar surface configured to contact the first planar surface of the latch protector plate in the installed configuration. The spacer plate has an external peripheral profile matching a corresponding external profile of the door overlapping portion of the latch protector plate to eliminate gaps between the corresponding external profile of the door overlapping portion which would allow the introduction of burglary tools.
LOCKING SYSTEM FOR DOOR ON OVER-THE-ROAD VEHICLE
In combination: an over-the-road vehicle with a frame bounding a cargo space and at least one door having inside and outside surfaces and a peripheral edge; and a first locking assembly connected to the vehicle. The first locking assembly extends in an inside to outside direction over at least a portion of the thickness dimension of the peripheral door edge and so that a first portion extends to beyond the outside door surface. The first portion of the first locking assembly is configured to be engaged by a locking device that acts between the first locking assembly and another component to maintain the first door in the closed position. The first locking assembly is configured so that a region of the first portion is locally strengthened in a manner to resist severance and/or bending.
Locking system for door on over-the-road vehicle
In combination: an over-the-road vehicle with a frame bounding a cargo space and at least one door having inside and outside surfaces and a peripheral edge; and a first locking assembly connected to the vehicle.
