Tools and methods for forming aligned holes from near full-sized holes

Tools and methods for creating a plurality of aligned holes from a plurality of near full-sized holes. The tool includes a cutting member having a first diameter and a pilot member connected to and coaxial with the cutting member. A first section of the pilot member includes a centering member and is positioned between the cutting member and the second section having a second diameter. The centering member may include a cutting surface. The second diameter corresponds to a positional tolerance of misalignment of a plurality of near full-sized holes of the same diameter and a full-size hole diameter. The centering member may have a third diameter between the first and second diameters. The centering member may be tapered. The pilot member may be inserted into a plurality of near-full sized holes and the cutting member may cut through the holes to form a plurality of aligned full sized holes.

Spade bit having reamer feature

A spade bit includes a shaft defining an axis about which the spade bit is configured to be rotated. The space bit also includes a blade attached to the shaft and having a first paddle portion and a second paddle portion. In addition, the spade bit includes a tip portion attached to the blade and aligned with the axis. The first paddle portion includes (i) a first leading end portion positioned on a first side of the axis and configured to define a first cutting edge portion, and (ii) a first lateral extension portion configured to define a first sloping surface. The first paddle portion defines a first relief space positioned adjacent to both the first sloping portion and the first leading end portion. The second paddle portion includes (i) a second leading end portion positioned on an opposite second side of the axis and configured to define a second cutting edge portion, and (ii) a second lateral extension portion configured to define a second sloping surface. The second paddle portion defines a second relief space positioned adjacent to both the second sloping portion and the second leading end portion.

A drill includes a drill body rotatable about a drill axis, and a cutting portion. The cutting portion includes a first grinding face having first and second chisel edges defining an angle therebetween, and a second grinding face having third and fourth chisel edges defining an angle therebetween, the second grinding face being point-symmetrical with the first grinding face. A first relief face associated with a first cutting edge extends from the first and fourth chisel edges and a second relief face associated with a second cutting edge extends from the second and third chisel edges. A first intersection line is formed where the first and second relief faces meet; a second intersection line is formed where the third and fourth relief faces meet. The first and second intersection lines are spaced apart from an imaginary center line passing through the rotational axis and the first and third relief faces.
