Zero lead generative cutting tool
09764401 · 2017-09-19 · ·

A hobbing or gear cutting machine uses a rotary tool to rotate a cutting tool around a central axis of the cutting tool. The cutting tool has zero lead cutters, that is, the cutting tool is non-helical. A head holds the rotary tool and moves the cutting tool longitudinally along the central axis of the cutting tool. A workpiece holder holds a workpiece to be machined into a gear proximate the cutting tool. The workpiece holder selectively rotates the workpiece in conjunction with the longitudinal movement of the cutting tool via the head to cut both straight and helical gears from the workpiece.

Smilled spline apparatus and smilling process for manufacturing the smilled spline apparatus

By combining shaping and milling actions, or smilling, the cutting tool can move through the entire usable portion of the spline and machine a tool relief into the face of the adjacent feature such as a shoulder before retracting, reversing direction, and repeating the cycle. The smilling apparatus and manufacturing method eliminates the need for an annular spline relief and the full length of spline engagement can be utilized for strength. The effective width of the spline connection apparatus manufactured by the smilling process conserves space and increases the load carrying capability of the spline connection.

A gear including plural teeth 3 to mesh with teeth of a corresponding gear to thereby transmit a rotational motion is provided. A form (b) of a tooth root side of each tooth 3 includes: a first curved surface c that is smoothly connected to a tooth surface a having an involute curve and has a profile expressed by a curve that is convex in an inverse direction of the involute curve of the tooth surface a; and a second curved surface d that is smoothly connected to the first curved surface c and has a profile defined by a hyperbolic function having a curve being convex in the same direction as the first curved surface c. It is possible to reduce a stress generated on the tooth root side at the time of meshing with teeth of the corresponding gear and thus to increase the strength of the teeth.

Coolant delivery system and skiving machine equipped with the system

A coolant delivery system which serves to deliver a cooling agent whose purpose is to carry away the heat that is generated in the process of machining a toothed profile by means of a skiving wheel rotating about its rotary axis. The coolant delivery system provides for a delivery path section which, seen in a projection onto a plane extending orthogonal to the rotary axis, is arranged closer to the axis than the toothed profile of the skiving wheel and has a dimensional component in the axial direction.

Peeling wheel and method for manufacturing a toothing on a gear wheel by skiving

The invention relates to a peeling wheel for manufacturing a toothing on a gear wheel by skiving. The peeling wheel includes a toothing, which is formed by a plurality of equally shaped cutting teeth arranged and distributed around the rotational axis of the peeling wheel at a first pitch and at least one deviating cutting tooth, whose shape is different from the shape of the equally shaped cutting teeth. The cutting teeth include cutting edges with which they come into chip removing engagement with the material of the gear wheel during the skiving processing. In order to be able to produce toothings with such a peeling wheel with increased freedom in the design, the invention proposes that the deviating cutting tooth is arranged outside of the first pitch (p). The invention also relates to a method for producing a toothing on a gear wheel by skiving using a peeling wheel.
