Mold machining method using end mill
A mold machining method using an endmill, the contour of a cross section of the mold being concave and continuous in an area, a ratio of the maximum to the minimum of radius of curvature of the contour of a portion of the area (a first area) being 2 or greater, and a blade of the endmill having a second area where the contour of a cross section is similar to the contour of the first area, the method comprising the steps of determining a spiral path of the endmill such that each point of the first area is machined by a portion of the second area, corresponding to said each point in the similarity, and a radial interval between the spiral tool path is maximized while keeping surface roughness of the machined mold at or below a predetermined value; and machining the mold along the path.
System and method for forming elongated perforations in an inner barrel section of an engine
Certain embodiments of the present disclosure provide an acoustic inlet barrel of an engine. The acoustic inlet barrel may include an inner barrel configured to provide a boundary for directing airflow through the engine. The inner barrel may include an inner face sheet separated from an outer face sheet by an acoustic core. The inner barrel may include a plurality of elongated, non-circular perforations formed through the inner face sheet.
Processing method for brake rotor-equipped wheel bearing devices
An outer member and an inner member constituting a wheel bearing device are assembled and the brake rotor is fixed to the hub ring of the inner member. In this state, the pad slide surfaces of the brake rotor are lathed with the reference provided by a wheel pilot end surface. Alternatively, the wheel pilot end surface of the hub ring by chucking the knuckle pilot of the outer member with the wheel bearing device put in its assembled state, and the pad slide surfaces of the brake rotor are lathed with the reference provided by the wheel pilot end surface.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MACHINING A SLOT IN AN INNER SURFACE OF A CASING FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A milling device for machining a slot into an inner surface of a casing for a gas turbine engine. The milling device includes a frame assembly including multiple structural guides configured to engage structural features on the inner surface of the casing to maintain an axial position of the milling device relative to a longitudinal axis of the casing. The milling device also includes a milling cutter coupled to the frame assembly. The milling device is configured to be displaced in a circumferential direction relative to the longitudinal axis to machine the slot, via the milling cutter, along the inner surface of the casing in the circumferential direction.
Method of manufacturing an elbow, cutting tool, and elbow
Provided is a method of manufacturing an elbow, including: a first cutting step of cutting a material by relatively moving a cutting section of a cutting tool, which is formed of at least a part of a substantially spherical shape, along an inner side surface of the elbow to be finished in a direction from a first end surface to a second end surface of the material; and a second cutting step of cutting the material by relatively moving the cutting section along the inner side surface of the elbow to be finished in a direction from the second end surface to the first end surface of the material.
INTERPOLATED MILLING TOOLS AND METHODS
Milling tools and methods are disclosed. The method may include moving a milling tool having at least two axially spaced apart sets of cutting inserts to an axial position within a bore in a material and rotating the milling tool about a longitudinal axis. Contact between the milling tool and a wall of the bore may be initiated in a region of the wall having a least amount of material at the axial position. The milling tool may include a tool shaft having a longitudinal axis, a first set of radially spaced cutting inserts coupled to the tool shaft, and a directly adjacent second set of radially spaced cutting inserts coupled to the tool shaft and spaced from the first set of cutting inserts along the longitudinal axis. The first and second sets of cutting inserts may be staggered from each other by at least 10 degrees.
METHODS OF FORMING HOLES IN A WORKPIECE AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEMS
Described herein is a first method of forming a hole in a workpiece, having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The method includes forming a first hole, having a first diameter, in the workpiece by passing a first cutter through the workpiece from the first surface to the second surface. Additionally, the method includes forming a chamfer in the second surface of the workpiece concentric with the first hole using a second cutter. The chamfer has a second diameter larger than the first diameter. The method further includes forming a second hole, having a third diameter larger than the first diameter, in the workpiece concentric with the first hole by passing a third cutter through the workpiece from the first surface to the second surface.
Method of machining an opening in a plurality of blanks
A method and a system are disclosed for making an article of manufacture from a blank defining an internal opening. A stack of blanks are aligned and the internal openings of the blanks in the stack of blanks are machined by a rotary cutting tool to a finished dimension. The blanks are clamped together before machining in a numerically controlled machine tool. The blanks are subsequently formed individually in a sheet metal forming operation in which the inner perimeter of the internal openings is expanded as the blank is formed.
